Zoe: What's that, sir? Mal: Freedom, is what. Zoe: No, I meant what's that? Mal: Oh. Yeah. Just step around it. I think something must've been living in here.

Cherry

I always forget that it's my favorite flavor, which is a stupid thing to forget. Then I realize that my favorite is the real thing, not the fake, chemically thing that parades itself as "cherry flavor."

"Cherry" is family vacations and going into strange roadside diners and looking at the menu suspiciously, then leaping with relief on good, old, familiar Cherry soda.

Or proper cherry cordials, with dark chocolate and a real cherry in the middle, sweet and slightly sour and so, so good.

Don't tell me that squirt of citric-acid-and-"natural flavors" is cherry. I can tell.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

I haven't been participating or commenting, but the prompts are great and I'm glad to see everyone writing!

Cherry:

It’s never as simple as a kiss.

But the little men who lead the way assure me it is the answer. “One kiss,” they promise, “please.”

Every word is an enticement. “Lips like a cherry,” they tell me. “Hair glossy as a raven’s wing.”

They aren’t wrong. The cold glass casket holds such beauty, it takes my breath away.

I wonder what those lifeless lips will taste like. I wonder if I will be able to breathe new life into them.

They open the casket for me. I gather my trailing skirts and step forward to kiss the sleeping prince.

Coding and Sleeping

Nice.

Well, I've got two queries and one partial out there. Now I guess I just wait. I think I'll prepare 2-3 more queries so I've got some in the hopper. Yep, just wait...

Thanks, Gud.

Yeah, just keep working and getting stuff ready to send. It makes the time go ... well, not faster, but it does take up some of it.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I am writing a short article for publication of conferences proceedings from a conference on experiential learning. It's about 3 pages double spaced. Could I get someone to take a quick look at it before I send it out later tonight?

Many thanks!

I could look, Burrell.

an overblown libretto and a sumptuous score/ could never contain the contradictions I adore

Just sent an article proposal to Rookie magazine-- their next theme is 'obsession' and I though How Buffy Summers Got Me Through Adolescence would make a fun essay. We'll see if I get a reply.
