You might try just letting it rest for a week or two, as well, and then giving it a reread yourself. It's amazing how much you catch when you have some time away, everything from pace to characterization to word choice.
The Great Write Way, Act Three: Where's the gun?
A place for Buffistas to discuss, beta and otherwise deal and dish on their non-fan fiction projects.
That sounds like a good idea. I intend to make an audio version, I pick up a lot listening to it.
I'll have a bit of time before diving into the next revision. There's some groundwork I need to do to get ready.
I *always* pick up things when I read aloud for my critique group, especially repeated words and missing ones. Reading aloud is so useful, but I don't have the patience to do it all in one shot.
I do that every day with the script...I used to feel more embarrassed about until Denis Leary said he did the same thing. FWIW. Gud, how far did you get with the script? Cause there's a new version now.
I can get to the document from here, so I just sent what I have. It's not great feedback since I don't know the characters or show.
I especially liked the bit with ARI and MRS. ARI, I thought that was good and funny.
I can look at the new version if you want, but the same caveats: don't know the characters and it will be slow.
They're funny, aren't they? I feel bad that that spousal bickering didn't fit in the new version.
I got 58 knocked out, 59 is almost knocked out, and 60 is started. I've got a bad feeling about 60, there's some stuff I want to rush through at the beginning of 60 because I need to glue together the meat of 60 with the end of 59. I might be rushing a bit too much though. I'm tempted to let it be rushed with this revision and rethink it later.
Getting closer though, once I get through 60 (or maybe 60 and 61) I'll be pasting on the rough draft's conclusion with some non-trivial polishing and then this revision is done.
Still pushing to get done. I'm well into 60 now, but there is still a fair amount to happen the chapter. Splitting seems likely.
No progress last night. I had to work late and that wiped out my time. Hopefully I can make a bit of progress tonight. I've still got an outside chance of getting through to the end this weekend, but most likely I'll slip past that.
Also, I got a bit of feedback on Book 1, always cool. Good stuff, I'll probably act on all the weak areas mentioned. It was exciting to read that a couple of things I was trying to achieve worked out for the reader.
