For those of you reading the story, you might notice I used the same concept in one of this thread's drabble challenges. My partner and I just expanded it from 100 words to 10,000 words so it may take a bit longer to read.

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that the next issue of Membra Disjecta is going up on the 15th, and the theme is "New Beginnings" or "Pirates vs. Ninjas"... strangely, I've had no pirate/ninja submissions. But I digress.
