Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

As a fast food lover, here is some scary shit. [link]

Although it does offer alternatives of a fast food nature.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

As I've recently griped on the Literary thread, British authors of a certain generation are prone to included bits of untranslated French in their text, apparently assuming that any properly educated person can read them. Can I possibly get a translation on these three that I encountered this morning? (I may be missing an accent or two here or there.)

megan, please let me know if I'm overdoing the translation requests. I'm really grateful that you're helping so much with my WIP, and the stuff above I don't even need. It's just a little maddening to stumble across these things and have some idea from the English context what they're saying, but not to KNOW.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

third row from bottom, 3rd from left. does the 5th from left look less orangey?

msbelle, Makeup Alley's reviews of the color say it's blue-based red, so it shouldn't go orangey on you.

Man, I wish Revlon still made Revlon Red. *grumps*

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

thanks, maybe I'll go buy it after work as a replacement to the orange one I got.

Going to Book Expo tomorrow. Should I bring a really HUGE bag for which to stuff in as much free crap as possible? Or is that unclassy? Medium size bag?

Allyson, don't bother with a bag at all. The first vendors you're going to encounter after entering will be armed with many canvas bags, so snag those first and then start filling. The initial influx of attendees is so dense and so many people are grabbing for books that I usually found it best to grab a bag or two, grab the books I wanted in the first few minutes and toss some in the bags as I was being swept along with the crowd, and then take a few minutes to rearrange everything the first chance I had to stop at the end of the aisle.

If you're driving out to the convention center, you might want to take a mid-morning break and take your books out to your car--I usually put a few boxes in the trunk and would transfer the books from the bags to the boxes, leaving me with empty bags to load up again. I would usually have upwards to 100 books by the end of the first day, about 6-7 bags full.

Oh, and go to the website and check out the list of authors who are signing tomorrow--if there are any big names that will be only signing books if you have a ticket, make a list of them and make sure you get to the center by 6:30 am at the latest to get in line for those tickets (6:00 would be better), which they usually start handing out at 7:00. The last time I went to BEA, I was in line by 6:10 and still just barely got the Julie Andrews ticket, the hot item of the day. (As I was walking away from the ticket booth, I heard them announce, "All out of Andrews!" and the big groan from the many still in line.)

Actually, probably bring one medium sized bag, just in case you don't get to snag the canvas freebie bag until your second or third vendor.

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

Je ne hais point la liberté. Je l’ai écarté, lorsqu’elle obstruait ma route; je la comprends, j’ai été nourri dans ses pensées.

"I don't hate freedom (liberty, i.e., as a concept). I pushed it aside when it blocked my path; I understand it, I was nurtured on its ideas."

FYI: Ne... point is just a literary form of ne...pas.

Si j’ai seduit Cinna, j’en seduirai bien d’autres!

I'm a little confused by the "si" here. Is it preceded by a negative question such as You didn't seduce Cinna, did you ?, in which case, this would mean, "Yes, I seduced Cinna, and I will seduce many others." Otherwise, if "si" is supposed to mean if, this is formulated incorrectly.

faiblesse dans le deduit d’amour

This stumped me since, based on "déduire", this would mean the deduction/subtraction of love, but my Larousse says that in Old French "déduire" could mean divert or amuse, so I'm going to go with a "weakness in the game of love."

Don't worry about the requests. Translation is good practice for me. As those who know me well can attest, I will have no problem telling you when I don't want to do it anymore.

Anyone know what real estate prices on the moon are like these days? I'm thinking of moving...

No, I don't think I will - me, quoting Captain Steve Rogers, to all of 2020

Anyone know what real estate prices on the moon are like these days? I'm thinking of moving...

The real estate is free.

It's the utilities that are a bitch.

Still, I too am considering the move.
