Early: So is it still her room when it's empty? Does the room, the thing, have purpose? Or do we -- what's the word? Simon: I really can't help you. Early: The plan is to take your sister. Get the reward, which is substantial. 'Imbue.' That's the word.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

A Ron Paul supporter gets upset over the location of his book at Barnes & Noble: [link]

However, it was still in the back corner of the sotre, bottom shelf, 3 copies. (there were 6 on April 30th an I bought two of them) I was under the apparenty mistaken impression that the BN Bestseller shelves featured prominently at the front of the store were for true bestsellers and I actually thought it was tied into the NYT list. NOT AT ALL.

A book can be #1 everywhere, INCLUDING at BN.com and they won't necessarily feature it on the bestseller shelf up front. There is not hard critera, either. Whatever IS selling or is projected to sell. READ: whichever publisher PAYS for the self space. It is FRAUD.

It should be the Barnes & Noble PICKS or FEATURES.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

I think it's both sad and funny that the likelihood of someone wanting to marry me for my French citizenship may now be greater than someone wanting to marry me for my American citizenship.

I think it's both sad and funny that anyone could possibly need any inducement to marry you beyond your sheer awesomeness. The French citizenship should just be... not even a gift with purchase, just a bonus gift with gift.

In completely random news that harks back to a discussion from last week: One of my officemates was gone on Friday -- turns out she was in New York attending the baptism of her twin niecephews, born a couple of months ago to her baby sister. Her 50-year-old baby sister. The last trimester was hellish with health issues and the babies were touch-and-go in the ICN for the first couple of weeks, but everyone is now home and healthy and on track for relative normalcy and lack of long-term complications.

Disclaimers: Overall rocky, scary experience, tragedy nearly avoided, plural of anecdote not data, etc.; but, still. Something to bear in mind against the NPR OMGWTF all post-30 ovaries are fossilized!!!1!eleventy story.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Heh. My publisher paid for shelf space. It's The Way of It.

For SFIstas: Million Pirate March

On May 18, 2008 history will be made when up to 1,000,000 pirates will march forth toward the sea in San Francisco, California. This is a time to affirm our love of pirates, parrots and even wooden peg legs.

Never before have pirates joined together peacefully in such large numbers to celebrate... well... being pirates.

This momentous occasion also happens to coincide with the annual Bay to Breakers event which will be held on the same day, at the same time and on the same route as us pirates will take on our journey to the ocean. This means we will probably blend in with all the other regular folks who might happen to be dressed as pirates anyway.

Our wings are not tired.

I picked up all of the Ann Coulter books that were on one of the B&N front-of-store tables and took them to the "fertilizer" section of the gardening shelves.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

But there are oh so many, many rugby players floating around.

Ha! I was invited to go to rugby tourney in Ireland this summer. Mostly gay ruggers, but would be a brilliant time. Unfortunately, between the flight and the abysmal exchange rate, I couldn't afford it.
