Where are the cougars coming from, brenda?

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

From the wild (the Wisconsin wild, they keep emphasizing) - they're speculating that the numbers might be growing and we'll be seeing more of this kind of stuff, actually.

Because books.

Wow. That's ... disturbing.

No, I don't think I will - me, quoting Captain Steve Rogers, to all of 2020

From back a bit.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

My tivo stopped connecting because the expiration date on my bank card changed, and now it's all updated but the damn thing still won't connect. "Failed while negotiating." WTF? The writers' strike would never have ended if my Tivo was involved.

Heh. And also, ugh! I'm hoping everything will have gotten itself worked out while I'm not there. And/or the loose cord will be obvious when I get home.

Ann, that's a ferret.

From the wild (the Wisconsin wild, they keep emphasizing)

When I grew up there, the part of Wisconsin nearest to Chicago wasn't all that wild. I guess things have changed in the last 30 years.

It's alarming to kneel down to retrieve a fallen stack of papers and feel a seam rip.

Thank god it was just the flimy trouser lining.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

It's gorgeous and sunny outside and I am wearing a light skirt and sandals.

Unfortunately it is TWELVE DEGREES BELOW ZERO in my office. Thank goodness I keep a sweater on the back of my chair. [eta: Which is currently acting as a lap blanket.]

Coding and Sleeping

It was quite enlightening, and even hopeful. And yet I suspect we'll never ever get such a system here. The insurance and pharmaceutical and medical lobbies are too big.

I dunno, I think public sentiment is heading that way. If some sort of employer mandated system goes into place, maybe other industries will start to lobby for a single payer type system so they can get out of the health care benefits business.

It seems to me, being the total non-expert I am, that the problem is the general public wants a free market system that doesn't work like a free market system.
