Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

Due to the horror that was my one and only attempt at coloring my own hair, I'm relying on a professional. Really. Pink hair is Not Me.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

The one and only time I tried to color my hair (admittedly, by using A Box Off A Shelf, not by using the complex and arcane mixology that Plei and Jess make look effortless), it ended up well-nigh ORANGE.

I therefore entrust all things tonsorial, including color, to my stylist, who actually knows what she's doing, unlike me, who knows FUCK ALL about hair color.

t edit Hah! Toddson and I execute the "Stylist, please!" x-post to counter Jess and Plei's "Nobody colors my hair but me!" x-post!

Plei, you've mentioned the no chemical dyes a few times -- are you henna-ing now?

Yep. I've been using henna exclusively for about 6-7 months now.

As I stock up at the Indian grocery store, it's WAY cheaper than chemical. And I'm willing to have one day a month where I have mud on my head for hours, now that the kidlet is older.

Exactly what's happening to your hair - it emphasizes the red in the dyes.

Yep.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

I want this cut but work won't let me. I think I might actually go with bangs this time. For a couple years now I've been telling my stylist, "long in front, short in back and whatever you feel like on the sides." I might be ready to come out from behind my forelock.

Punishingly Intricate

The ad didn't say no calls.

ha! I don't know why I thought that. In that case, yes call! (And I'm in the ranks of those rooting for you to be able to tell your boss to SUCK IT! very, very soon.)

I got all my hair coloring mishaps out of the way in high school. It was awesome. By the time I went to a colorist, I already knew my hair inside out and backwards.

So can I get a henna that won't do that? And how is it on greys? I don't have a lot but they are all in front.

I had a great stylist in high school, her name was actually Amy Barber. But one day she was gone and the salon wouldn't say where she went.

Nope. Henna will do red. As my usual goal for my hair is, in fact, red, henna works well for me. My greys come out copperish, and the rest is a bright, deep auburn. [link] or [link]

You can do henna and indigo mixes that will give you a brown, but getting the mix right is tricky. (You can do henna and then indigo for black, which is what Jilli does.)

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

What do you get if you do just indigo, no henna?
