Spike's Bitches 40: Buckle Up, Kids! Daddy's Puttin' the Hammer Down.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

not your mom's socks.

skipping because this was just overheard & needed to be given to the internets:

"I love you daddy. When I grow up, I'm gonna marry you!"

"I'm already married..."

"To who?"

"Who do you think?"

"Mommy!"

"Right!"

"I love Opa (Grandpa DH) too. Is he married?"

"Yes. To Oma..."

"Is Gigi (Grandma Sox) married? ..."

(at least she didn't ask if Hello Kitty was married... yet.)

Aww. I think that's adorable.

Question--growing up, we did not have any cute names for our grandparents. Grandma [FirstName] and Grandpa [FirstName]. Though I think we may have been the first generation to not be calling them by their last names! (My older cousins occasionally did)

What kind of names did you guys use with your grandparents? Was it from a cultural thing, or a mispronunciation, or a request from the grandparent?

Omnis - your body needs to cut you a break, IMHO. Also? Omnis-Dr? Please to tell our friend things. Kthanksbye.

Meara - we started because I called both grandmothers "Grandma" when I was very little... and was called to the phone to talk to "Grandma" and immediately began babbling about something that one G knew and liked/approved of/understood/something like that and the other didn't. I was on the phone with the wrong one. Names were assigned I think the moment the smoke cleared. Mine were Grandma and Granny. Granny-side, I was the eldest, and so got to pick the name and make everyone following live by it. Grandma-side, you'll need to ask Sparky's sister about, or possibly our cousin from Canadia.

Iris inherited Oma and Opa from her cousin; my mom was hoping for Granny, but likes GiGi just as much.

information libertarian

I called my grandparents Dod (a family nickname; her name was Dorothy) and George, and Sam (navy nickname, universally used; his given name is Ormon Edwin and he was called Eddie before the navy) and (stepgrandmother) Barbara. I also called (and call) my parents by their first names.

My kids have Grandma and Grandpa mr. flea's last name, Grandma Debbie and Grampy Don, and Grandma Terry and Grandpa Toby.

Mine were/are Granny & Grampa, Nana & Grandaddy, Grampa Dave (& Miscellaneous - he was never married to anyone but my grandmother for long enough to matter). My great-grandmother was Geema.

Of Dylan's four grandparents, only my mother has picked out a nickname (Bubbe). (DH's parents don't want to impose, and my dad is still in denial about being old enough to be a grandfather.)
