Little Man wore a rocking sushi kimono at his party today, wherein he groped, played, got lots of kisses, struck a pose, and had a birthday cupcake.

Gracie held up her end by being adorable, with perfect form. Don't tell Anya, but she's a bunny lover.

And I was just about to say "it's the morning of a new week, and no-one amuses me".

I just got back from a "Salon of Shame"--people reading excerpts from their diaries from middle and high school (mostly). It was hysterical. We all reallly reallllly loved one girl's reading from 7th grade--she had like, 20 entries that were all about this girl Mary who was *so* cool, and very polite, and "sophisticated, I think because she has an older sister" and had "fixed" hair (we never figured out what that meant). On and on and on about how she wished she and Mary were friends, and how Mary was nice even to people who were ugly! It was so funny. Some of us were clearly gay long before we knew it!

That sounds hilarious. How do people find the courage to read those excerpts aloud, in front of other people, not to mention return and read old diary entries to begin with?

I think I have sufficient distance from my diary-keeping days that I could do it. I mean, that ten year old SO isn't me.

Man, sleeping all day is predictably rough on getting to sleep at night.

Oh, I looked at my college diaries, but didn't bring those. It was still too recent and painful (and I'm 30!). I brought a diary from freshman year of high school, but ended up only reading from my 6th grade diary (I was 11, and it was required for a class). Twenty years was sufficient space, I think.

But you obviously got to pick and choose exactly what you were reading--so some people skipped over parts, or didn't read the entries about how their new stepmother was a whore (someone mentioned specifically NOT reading those!), etc etc.

One of my favorite excerpts from the sixth grade diary went something like "Why did I cut my hair? Ugh. It looks awful, and I just know Angie Tarr (who is so stuck up and mean and has to imitate me) will say "Why did you cut your hair, it looks ugly!"

I honestly have almost no memory of that girl, but apparently I disliked her a lot! If it hadn't been a diary for English class, I wonder what else I would've said about those kids!

Those 9 year old and 16 year old and 20 year old aren't today's-me as well, but they are parts of me. And usually, the diary parts are the parts I wanted to keep away from the humanity, for my own 9, 16 and 20 year old sake.
