'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

SAP is why my job was eliminated -- indirectly responsible, as in they overspent by about $20mill getting it implemented (very VERY poorly) and then had to spend probably another $10m getting it implemented properly. So they cut the jobs of many of the "non-essential" support personell who actually knew how to make the legacy apps work.

The thing about SAP as a database is that you don't interact with it directly -- you use a middleware that you use to connect to the apps that actually connect to your front ends. So technically, IMHO, it's like a game of data Telephone where there are many points of slippage where stuff (like what teachers actually get paid and have taxes taken out) can go pear-shaped without anybody noticing for far far too long.

It makes me mad all over again trying to summarize this. I may have to go sit with shrift for a little while.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

I don't understand two-way calling, or the click to talk services. What do these glorified walkies have on regular cell phones? Do they use a different spectrum or something? Why would a consumer want it?

As for texting, I do it when I either don't need a response (running late) or want a short response (where are you) instead of a conversation.

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

do you text from your cell phone?
Yes

Why or why not?
Easy on the iPhone and included in my plan. I also like the not having to talk bit and how useful it is when you can't use your phone but need to get a message to someone quickly.

Do you think texting is becoming increasingly popular?
Yes, yes, yes.

GLITTER RALLY! Loves it!

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Glitter positive, yeah!

Ah, sweet texting. Often I'll text someone instead of leaving a voicemail--that way they don't have to make a call to see what I wanted to say, and they have a record of it. I can send the same text to multiple people, read old texts later on. I love it. I also have a Mac app that interfaces with the texting function on my phone so I can read and send texts from here. Very handy.

Am in day one of three day juice fast. This shit is disgusting. There are different drinks to be had every hour--so far the first hour was the nastiest one. I'm way behind because it was supposed to start at 7, but I have today off and slept in.

Hmm. This episode of Star Trek (The Deadly Years) has some pretty good age makeup considering...well, considering some of the travesties I've seen on TV in the past 40 years. I wonder why the technology is so irregular.

I really want a bowl of cereal.

My students have used texting as their primary mode of communication for at least three years.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

I actually texted Cass the other day to tell her I was going to call her.

But we're both phone-haters. So I wanted to be sure she'd pick up.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

I've never sent a text message. I'm obviously way behind on technology as used by Kids These Days.

I started texting almost three years ago...after I was visiting Juliana, had a phone that didn't get texts, and thus missed out on the girl I was flirting with texting me saying "Do you want to come over?" after I dropped her off and went back to J's. Sigh.

After maybe a year, I was texting/getting enough texts that I added the $5/mo option for like, 200 texts. Before that it was cheaper to just pay for them individually.

Now I have a phone with qwerty keyboard and unlimited texting. So I use it more during the day, if i don't want to use minutes and someone isn't on IM. It's super super useful if you're meeting people somewhere noisy and just want to say "I'm running late" or "on my way" or "Where the fuck are you in this bar?".

Plus, I just hate talking on the phone.

And I'm with whoever totally doesn't get the nextel walkie talkie phone things--what the hell is hte point of that???
