Hollywood might come to the newly closed Jackson, Michigan prison: [link]
This part cracks me up though:
But he said he worries about the long-term impact and stigma the movie would create about Jackson and a community that many already identify as a prison town.
Fleming said he was working in Detroit in the late 1980s when the film "RoboCop" was made, and he doesn't want that to be Jackson's fate.
"That had a negative impact," he said.
Right. RoboCop gave Detroit a bad image. Not the actual, real life corrupt cops and murders. The fake Robot Guy and Kurtwood Smith did it.
Dumbass.
And it was the one good line he ever got anyway.
That's probably why it stuck.ETA: The Detroit comments reminded me of Baltimore getting a new slogan cause "The Wire" is shot there.

Well, it perfectly epitomized all that was wrong with Quayle as a vice-president. That and potatoe.
And there was one about a mind, too. But, unfortunately, all that kind of crap is all too in a day's work if the president says "nucular".
The Detroit comments reminded me of Baltimore getting a new slogan cause "The Wire" is shot there.
We did?

Speaking of cursing, I suggested "Baltimore: It's Fucking Awesome" to then Mayor O'Malley (on whom Carcetti was based despite David Simon's repeated denials) and he agreed that it would be a great slogan.
Well, maybe y'all decided not to go ahead with it. But some PR firm did some study, and said David Simon harmed the city's image, with an eye toward some sort of "rebranding".
It was like something Lindsay Nagel from the Simpsons would think.
ETA: Cool, Lisah. Around here, our politicians are already parody enough that nobody needs to write about them and wonder who they are.
I went and had a burger at Mel's with Kristen and Polgara last night and it was awesome.
Came home to a birthday cake in my fridge, a balloon tied to my door, a Home Depot gift certificate and some nice cards, and a package of flower-shaped fairy lights.
So that was nice. And then I took a bath with a Lush bath bomb and went to bed. Birthday turned out okay.
But you know, Noah and Grace are the BEST PRESENTS EVAR!
And there was one about a mind, too.
"What a waste it is to lose one's mind. Or not to have a mind. How true that is."
In response to, or attempting to paraphrase, the United Negro College Fund slogan "A mind is a terrible thing to waste."
But some PR firm did some study, and said David Simon harmed the city's image, with an eye toward some sort of "rebranding".
Ah, right. Baltimore: Get In On It!
The RuPaul quote was Hec. Sorry to leave you all hanging; I got called to the desk, and got to help clueless freshman who didn't know what he wanted find something. I hate it when they don't know what they want, but expect ME to know.
