I could only give The Wire two tries.
Really?! Why? (I've never met someone who has seen the show who hasn't loved it. But, obviously, I'm biased.)
'Dirty Girls'
[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls, The Inside and Drive), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath. Oh, and help us get Terriers dvds!

Oops, not a craft!
The Wire was slow to pull me into it -- it just has such a different rhythm than other shows.
I think it helps to know going in that The Wire does not work in stand-alone episodes. The shows are like chapters, each season is like a stand-alone book, and the series is like a memfault (series of sequential books that tell a broader story.) The beats of the episodes are sometimes much different than regular television.
casting race issues
Which ones?
Really?! Why?
I'm not a big fan of cop dramas and it didn't seem all that different from any other cop drama. And I really wanted to like it on account of I'm a McNulty.
edit: I would have given it another shot if my roommate had liked it but he was meh on it too so I took it off the Netflix queue.
I could have bought the three episodes of Drive I hadn't seen from Amazon for $6, but I splurged and bought the whole series for $9.
I know what I'm doing this weekend....
I'll give Dollhouse a shot. Obviously, as I watch Supernatural weekly, I have a fairly high tolerance for skeevy gender issues.
And then there's that. They've been getting worse, not better, and yet I watch. And watch. And watch.
I really want some Whedon on my TV, so I don't know how many episodes I'll give Dollhouse. A lot, I think, because Eliza's so watchable (although now that I think about it, she wasn't particularly watchable for me in True Calling).

I'm with Cindy!I only travel in the finest circles. Look at the hotness that is you!
(Also, HI!!! and [link]Again I make grabby hands. Would their mom like to board them in Boston for a semester? It will broaden their horizons. It's ridiculous that they don't stop getting cuter.
Re: casting race issues... let's just say that I'm on guard. Original Cindy from DA could have been a really terrible and stereotypical character, but the actress made her awesome. Some people on lj expressed concerns after seeing the sides. I'd link you but I honestly can't remember who it was.

She has a recurring role on Reaper as Sock's on again/off again girlfriend.
