I have a friend who works on Doctor Who. During her interview, she was asked 'Are you a fan of the show?'. She said no. And got a big tick. She's a massive fan girl.

You'd think that being a fan of the show would be an asset. But I guess that means you can't be objective? About the story you will be telling, which you presumably should...like?

Well, she doesn't write the story, she's production.

I don't know if I've told this story before but I think you might appreciate it.

Many years ago, when I was working at a TV-Lit agency, we had a meeting over at ICM and I was brought along to take notes. Tim's agent was in the meeting and, at one point, a show that Tim had worked on came up but the agent couldn't remember the name of the series.

Without even thinking about it, I mumbled, "High Tide."

The whole meeting kind of stopped, everyone looked at me, and the agent in question said, "How did you KNOW that?"

My boss cheerfully explained, "Kristen is our resident Buffy and Angel expert!"

I kept my head down for the rest of the meeting, while praying that the earth really would open up and swallow me whole.

Ha, that's a cute story, Kristen.

Thanks, Kristen. You should have seen the looks I got at a meeting with the studio when I explained why we should use the BSG Razor movie as a comparable to something we may do. It may have been respect or it may have been fear. I'm still not sure.

Fear. Respect. It's a fine line.

So regarding the list that we were speaking of last week, I must confess that I had suspected it would probably result in some kind of legal action. But I never saw this coming.

I still don't see the list as wrong or evil. Maybe just handled poorly.
