The Minearverse 6: Fiery Thread of Death
[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls, The Inside and Drive), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath. Oh, and help us get Terriers dvds!
This season is a little more ambitious, plot-wise, than the first season (which was confined mostly to the house, and the people who had lived and died in it), but the second season was just as nutty, I think.
I think with this show, it's like they take Coco Chanel's advice backward -- instead of taking one accessory off before leaving the house, they add three more.
I think the writing this season is uneven, too. Cordelia, for one, sounds like she's in another show entirely, and they're leaving a lot more loose threads hanging than before (although I'd really have to rewatch both previous seasons to say for sure). They do seem to have upped their game every season in terms of shock quotient -- last year was all sex and religion with some aliens and serial killers thrown in, and the first season was mostly shattering the American dream of happy families -- troubled kids, cheating spouses, etc.
Caught up on American Horror. Complaining at this point makes no sense, cause the whole show has gone wrong. But at the same time if I'm going to watch, I'm going to complain:
1) Marie Laveau no brighter than Fiona. I'll accept show's explanation of agreeing to an open ended deal with Papa Legba as arrogance and youth and being high on her own power. But hundreds of years later she still knows no better than to follow Fiona's lead - go after the witch hunter's money and then dust off their hands and say "they'll come suing for mercy". She hasn't learned better than to hurt a deadly enemy but still leave them able to fight back.
2) Worse, in the face of an enemy out there, she is happy to go along with killing all the young witches in the house. Great, that will leave them well prepared when the witch hunters strike.
3) Of all the characters I think Marie Laveau is the greatest waste. I won't bitch too much about "no children for you" when the historical accounts range from eight to sixteen. But she was such a complex character and they have chosen to make her so simple and not too bright. Without needing to be historically accurate, there is just so much they could have done to make her complicated and experienced and wise. They did not have to make her "nice" or even good, but if you are going to have Laveau living on into the present there is just so damn much you can do with her. Yeah, Madame LaLaurie was a waste too, but the absolute pointlessness did not actually contrast with all that much potential. I mean, they could have made her dangerous - maybe allied her with the witch hunters. But whatever lost potential her character had, it does not begin to match the potential that was wasted with Laveau.
WTF? Cordelia needs some serious therapy.
This show is just so loopy now, I can't even. I'm just hanging on for Myrtle now. I want to hang out with her and talk about Diane Von Furstenberg.
I have real problems with this show. I will finish the season, but I'm going to go back and not watching anything else Ryan Murphy does. My life was so much better when I followed that policy.
I won't get fooled again by Ryan Murphy. Nip/Tuck, Glee, every show of his, it's the same story. They start off strong and then fall all to hell about halfway through. I stuck with Nip/Tuck until the end but gave up on Glee. I'm going to suck it up and finish out AHS: Coven because there are only, what? Two episodes left. But it's not going to be pretty. When Madame went back to slicing up black men for fun and peace of mind last night after all that time we spent watching her severed head have a moment with black and white Civil Rights Movement footage, I almost lost it.
Like I said last night, I cannot.
When Madame went back to slicing up black men for fun and peace of mind last night after all that time we spent watching her severed head have a moment with black and white Civil Rights Movement footage, I almost lost it.
Girl. I am just so done.
When Madame went back to slicing up black men for fun and peace of mind last night after all that time we spent watching her severed head have a moment with black and white Civil Rights Movement footage, I almost lost it.
Right?! Not to mention she was conveniently no longer a severed head.
And no one wondered where Misty was?
Right?! Not to mention she was conveniently no longer a severed head.
Exactly, because if it were really that easy to just stick the head back on your undead voodoo plaything, then why was Marie Laveau flipping out when they sent Bastian's head back to her in that box? I mean, sure she would've been pissed because they chopped up her minotaur boyfriend, but not distraught like what we saw. She's been alive for hundreds of years and seen a ton of shit. Why wouldn't she just have sewn him back up and kept it pushing? Bah.
I guess they want you to think that no one was checking for Misty because she never really was part of the tribe anyway. Maybe Madison told them all she left to follow Stevie around? Who knows? Since no one working on the show really seems to care, I guess they just figure we shouldn't care either.
I just caught up on this show. What the hell?
It would make a really excellent comedy, though. Myrtle lurking in the basement, playing the theremin, giving people bus tickets to Epcot. The ghost of the dead butler convincing Delphine to drug people with Benadryl.
