On further thinking, I have more thoughts.
Things I liked about this episode: it was more coherent. I like the ramping up of the arc, especially it explaining where the doctor got her scars from.
I liked seeing the beginning of the relationship between Boyd and Echo. I liked that Boyd was there for Echo when she needed him, but didn't charge in and save her. She saved herself and him. I wish there had been a little less of the whimpering and running, but in the end, she got pissed and she kicked his ass.
I like the actress who plays Adelle, if not the character.
Things I did not like (aside from my continuing problems with the premise): People, when you're confronted with the crazy guy who's been chasing you with a bow and arrow, just fucking SHOOT HIM IN THE HEAD. None of this standoff, none of this talking, none of this warning him you have a gun before you shoot him.

I've pretty much quit watching Heroes for that reason. The stupid, it burns. I hope this isn't going to be a continuing trend with this show, too.
Amen. It's not like you have police that will show up any minute and take him safely away even if he does back down.
I also objected to Echo flailing ineffectually and trying to pry her attacker's hands off her throat for like, a minute's worth of gloating before stretching for the deus ex arrow. His eyes were right there in reach, and those blows that glanced off his jaw might have done some real damage if they connected to his Adam's apple. When you're being throttled by someone who wants you dead, it's not the time for being squeamish!

But people are. That is realistic, if unpragmatic.
She could have kicked him in the crotch, too.
She could have kicked him in the crotch, too.
Very hard (near impossible) to get up momentum for an effective crotch shot from that angle. His hips were above her hips and he was pretty much sitting on her. If she'd thought of it, jam a finger into the bullet hole or even the gouge from the first shot.
Stabbing him in the neck is good too.
I think that very few people would have the wherewithal to just shoot someone if they are not being directly threatened. If someone is threatening me, but I have a chance to try to talk them out of it, I will. Unless he makes an overt move, I don't think I would shoot, otherwise it would feel like I could have done something else than kill him.
Ultimately, it's one of those things you can't really know until it happens to you. I'm not really sure we knew enough of that persona to honestly evaluate her behavior. Guess I'm just blood thirsty!
I had to make up my own interesting, rounded, Bene Gesserit-style backstory.
honestly, that's where I thought they/Joss were/was going to go with it, or were coming from with it at the onset. Shindig basically killed that concept.
Really enjoyed the scrapped script, although I can't imagine what my reaction would have been not having known what I know watching the new pilot. I mean, how much would have been confusing, based on what the publicity and show descriptions and interviews floating about on the 'net and in the likes of TV Guide, EW, whatall.
I really liked how everything was already intersecting and connecting, how we start the story with Echo and not Caroline, and Caroline is a much bigger mystery and more tantalizingly so. How the progression of Echos identity was already starting. The threads were already woven and the premise and overarching plot were already moving.
Alpha: I'm confused at the idea that he was behind the Middleman's hunting of Echo. When Alpha got his berserker rage on, he left Echo untouched. Why, if trying to get her back, would have anything to do with the Mountie on the Bounty? That seems counterproductive.
Or I am misremembering what was said about Alphas potential connection to the latest job.
Maybe Alpha was testing Echo.
