But but but ... thread! Needle! Put together, then push through fabric and holes in button!
But the knots! And the order! And the tying! And the poking!
P-C, you're one up on me--at least you looked it up. When I lose a button, I usually just rip out the others so it's all uniform.
Well, they were for my pants. So the button was necessary! Especially because they were two of my favorite pantses!
Now I have to learn how to mend tears and holes.
Arrrrghhh. The cuteness, it burns!
Seriously, I'm making these little moaning noises to the computer monitor. God, those beagles are insanely cute.

You find my sartorial incompetence adorable?
God, those beagles are insanely cute.
Oh.
I love that there's a K-Ville disc on the floor behind the second beagle closeup.
But the knots! And the order! And the tying! And the poking!
The real non-intuitive trick is to stick a straight pin under your threads (on top of the button) while sewing so that you leave enough wiggle room to use the button.

I wrap around between the button and the fabric so there's some distance there. Not exactly wiggly, but room.

Yep, that's what I do.
Y'know, I should look to see if there's a class on clothing alteration and tailoring that I can take. Because I do okay, but I bet there are a bunch of cool techniques I don't know.
(Crafts thread! Crafts thread!)
ita and Jilli, I do the pin thing to maintain distance, then I do the wrap to create a snug shank, ,because I think the butto stays on longer. Then, if I'm super energetic, I dab a little of clear nailpolish on the thread to keep it there longer.
That's, of course, for no shank buttons. For shank buttons, I still do the wrap.
I'm watching comedy central and a comedian just said:
If you work with glitter, be prepared to have it on you forever. Because glitter is the herpes of craft supplies.
And I laughed and laughed and came running to the craft thread.
