Why don't the 456 just take some children? Why do they keep asking? Whatever the reason is must be a pretty exploitable weakness.
I'm getting the impression that can't physically do a lot other than spew green shit and let loose viruses. They have to have the children come to them, or at least come within range so they can suck them up with the flashing beam of light. They're clearly using the children as some sort of life support. I just don't think they're that physically capable/proactive.

Yeah, me either.
Which means the people who built the enclosure-tank-thing were IDIOTS to not build in a way to destroy it. Or maybe they did -- the guy who looks spookily like John Spencer may have survived in his HazMat suit. (Leo McGarry would NEVER put up with this shit, btw.)
Oh, and I love that the 456 DID know that Clem was watching. And I'm suspecting they left him behind for a reason other than some pubes.

I suspect if they looked at the formulation of the gas that the creature required, they would discover a lot about it. And if they hadn't blown up Torchwood, they might even have had a weapon that could have been used against them. Also, if they can figure out why the 456 want the children, they may be able to make the children unpalatable in some way. It's interesting that the kid in the box had some sort of breathing apparatus on.
Random thought: Technically, the 456 didn't welsh on the deal not to come back, England did. They promised 12 children, but only gave them 11, since Clem escaped.

Did he really, though? I got the feeling that he was walking into the light, just lagging behind, and as he got close, the blinding flash happened, taking the others, but leaving him behind. And because everyone was blinded by the flash and had looked away, he took the opportunity to run.

That occurred to me too! But then Clem and Gwen were had the whole "Why was I left behind?" "Puberty?" discussion and it seemed more like the 456 rejected him.
And it is amusingly politically incorrect in this instance to say they welshed. Good one.

Well, I thought it was so he doesn't breathe the toxic/poisonous air that the 456 breathes?
Right, but that tells us something, right? that the children don't adapt to their environment.
It also tells us that the children are not killed instantly.
