I finally got around to watching Kings last night. It's still holding my interest (more so than Dollhouse was two episodes in), especially since it's getting really good character actors for various roles. The guy who's the leader of Gath--I can't remember the actor's name, but he really is excellent. I've seen him in other roles and loved that they got him for this show. And Miguel Ferrer! I hope he gets more lines in future episodes, because he's always fun to watch.
But my favorite was seeing Brian Cox as the crazy former co-ruler. He's probably my favorite character actor of the past 25 years since he originated the role of Hannibal Lector, and he just nailed his performance here. He and McShane were brilliant together--I hope this isn't going to be his only appearance!
I love him, but I always picture him in "The Long Kiss Goodnight" -- "I should think that whatever he is attempting to dislodge is either gone for good, or there to stay." As a result, I always associate him with a dog licking its anus obsessively.
Yeah, Brian Cox was excellent. They're really going for Milch-lite with this show, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Did I mention I finally caught the BSG finale last night? Blah blah blah. I was a little afraid they'd choke, and that they did. Gotta say that I called the whole "we are the children of both" thing back in, like, season 2, though.
I first liked Brian Cox in the first few Sharpe's movies that I saw on PBS back in the mid 90s (yummy Sean Bean in tight uniform pants, waving a sword around and fighting both the enemy and his own men)--Cox was great as Wellington's number two guy who took Sharpe under his very manipulative wing.
Reaper: FINALLY Sam's dad makes a reappearance. And, yet, from the previews, it looks like it might be dropped again for how ever-many weeks.

At this point, I'm assuming she is actually Brian Cox's daughter and, in exchange for being raised with the king, made some sort of promise about not marrying so there would be no competing heirs.

Oh, good call. I like this theory. (Even if the "Don't you remember YOUR VOW???" scene was one of the worst examples of "As we both know, Bob" writing I've ever seen.)
It was a damn weird scene. It was so over-expositiony and yet at the same time Lost-level audience-taunting. "As we both know..." dunh dunh DUNNNNH, "so I won't say it."
