Er - my impression is that this is pretty much business as usual for Mr Barrowman.

Any ReGenesis fans? I'm just now watching season 1 on hulu. My fear is that the formula is going to grow old in the way that House's has done. But ReG doesn't really have the characters that House does to keep my interest.

Are series 2 or 3 any different?

Well, I'm not trying to say you should find it funny, because YMMV, but it does sound a bit like you've misunderstood the situation to me.

I don't see him as "choosing that route" - this is pretty normal Barrowman behaviour, from what little I've gleaned so far. He didn't clean up his act and pretend to be prim or straight in order to become famous - he became famous in spite of being openly gay, and a fairly flamboyant/outrageous kind of British thesp. Or because of it. Or something. But it's not a departure from the norm, afaics.

If people are getting their knickers in a twist about this back home, then it's only because of the recent Brand-Ross fiasco; The Daily Mail readers & co (and The Times is basically The Mail with more polysyllables and fewer pictures of Posh and Becks) are probably eager to have another morality crusade. (Quite missing the point, afaic - the Brand-Ross thing was contemptible because it was cruel, bullying and misogynistic - it was priveliged white straight men getting paid to be playground bullies, but the fact that the target of their cruelty happened to be an old man whose celebrity hinges on a fondly-recalled TV show meant that on this occasion a lot of people got indignant and complained. Yeah, I'm with Fay on all of this. Barrowman isn't being any different than he's been in the past-- now, whether it's to anyone's personal taste or not is a different matter altogether.

Brand and Ross, otoh, were simply jerks.

It does raise the question, however, of whether or not people would be as forgiving of Barrowman if he were a straight guy doing the same thing as he'd done. I mean, on the one hand, it's Barrowman being Barrowman-- the naughty, slightly outrageous gay man. If he'd been straight and flashing people, would the perception then be, "OMG, what a freakin' perv!"

they're counting Razor as part of season 4.

This drove me MAAAAAAAAAAAD when the S4 podcasts finally started coming out. I didn't listen to episode "403" for ages because I assumed it was, you know, the third episode of season 4.

But I would recommend watching Razor before S4 if only because RDM&Co consider it to be the first 2 eps.
