Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

You didn't watch the original British Coupling? He was the best thing about it.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

You're not getting him mixed up with Richard Coyle?

Hand over heart, I thought it was Richard Coyle in Houdini and Doyle. They look eerily alike.

Every TV character death, 2015-16. (SPOILERS, of course).

One last aspect of this project I have to address: Once again, it only tallies characters who had been in three episodes or more. If I were logging all the deaths to occur on television, I probably would have given up four episodes into Law and Order: SVU. There are, quite simply, too many.

And so those nameless or very minor characters who die randomly, all those corpses of the week and cannon fodder, were not counted — and they themselves paint a picture of just whom the TV industry sees as disposable.

But I still caught sight of them as I compiled this list. As I scoured hundreds of show summaries, character breakdowns, and IMDB credits, I realized that the overwhelming majority of tossed-off deaths belonged to women. I saw the same clause over and over again: "When a woman is found killed..."

Well, my brother and I don't call it the Special Vagina Unit for nothing. I'm sure that's including other shows, but some are just skewed way towards it than others.

Wow. I have hit one of the most significant milestones I am likely to see in my life.

Yesterday I borrowed from the library and watched the Second Doctor adventure, The Underwater Menace, for the first time. With this viewing, I have now seen every single episode of Doctor Who that exists on DVD.

(For the record: this adventure rates among the ten worst adventures of all time, according to Doctor Who Magazine. I think that's a bit unfair, but not greatly so.)

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

With this viewing, I have now seen every single episode of Doctor Who that exists on DVD.

That's awesome!!

I am feeling a real sense of achievement. I even sat through The Gunfighters! I've watched the one remaining episode of the Celestial Toymaker! (All the racism of The Talons of Weng-Chiang, with none of the quality!)

At the other end of the scale, my copy of series 9 has arrived. Time for a Capaldi rewatch.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

Re. Legends of Tomorrow. I quit watching mid season, but I read a post that said Savage was dead and Hawkman/Hawkgirl story was wrapped up? Was that pretty final? Because those three bored me to tears and were like 70% of the reason why I quit (the rest was how much I disliked Rip, but I guess we can't boot him, since we need the time travel ship and all).

'Cause I may consider catching up if that's true. I enjoyed the rest of the gang, even when storylines were preposterous.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

You have heard correctly. Savage is dead and the Hawks are gone.
