Spike: Lots of fuss over one girl. Other things to do around here--important things. Angel: You know that whoosh thing you do when you're suddenly not there anymore? I love that.

Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

The adopted sister channeling Kevin Costner instead of being grateful she was saved from a fiery death

To be fair, they backtrack on that pretty quickly.

Yeah, that bugged me too but then there was an explanation for her behavior.

Calista Flockhart is annoying me, but I think she's supposed to.

I hope so because she is super annoying me too.

It's Kryptonian, not Kryptonese

RIGHT?!

Kara is adorkable and I love her and the episode made me smile a lot. I'm in.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Meshach Taylor is hot like fiyah.

Mehcad Brooks?

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Meshach Taylor is hot like fiyah.

Hell yeah he is.

Is there a reason why she didn't call Clark and say "hey cuz, decided to do the superhero thing. Any tips?"

Needs to be a reason also why hasn't he called and said, "hey, saw you on the news. 'bout time. Whaddya mean there's more aliens on Earth? I'll be right there!" We know this story is supposed to be about Kara not Clark, but still, needs to be mentioned.

I liked it, but I can't tell how long it's going to hold my attention.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Supergirl:

I loved it!

To be fair, they backtrack on that pretty quickly.

Yeah, that bugged me too but then there was an explanation for her behavior.

The backtrack bugged me so much more than the original concern. It was too quick and without sufficient reason.

I'm also loving Calista Flockhart. The Supergirl name speech seemed very Ally to me, which I thought was awesome.

Mehcad Brooks?

Love him!

Needs to be a reason also why hasn't he called and said, "hey, saw you on the news. 'bout time. Whaddya mean there's more aliens on Earth? I'll be right there!" We know this story is supposed to be about Kara not Clark, but still, needs to be mentioned.

I think they sort of covered it in that James implied that Clark wants Kara to find her own way.

I'm also glad to see that Laura Benanti is being given more to do than be the poor, dead mother. When I originally heard the casting, I thought that was a waste of a great actress.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

The Supergirl name speech

That was the only part I didn't like, because grown-ass women are not girls (admittedly, this is a hill I've chosen to die on and I know lots of female humans over the age of 18 call themselves and other similarly-aged female humans "girls" [but it still gets on my last nerve]).

That said, (1) it certainly fit with Cat Grant's character, and (2) well, the DC character is named "Supergirl," so they had to get the name in there somehow.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

Okay, so 12-year-old Kara showed up 12 years ago along with a gaggle of alien criminals. At this point, Superman was already being a hero. Earth puts together a super-sekrit anti-alien agency that is kept secret from Superman, the person and/or alien best equipped to deal with alien criminals. The alien criminals wander about for 12 years without anyone noticing except the super-sekrit agency. Really?

Also, I will quibble that that office does not look or act like a newspaper office and layouts are done on computers.

I may have to leave the room during scenes with Cat Grant.

Yeah, my reaction was "It should be on the server!"

that office does not look or act like a newspaper office

Oh, but they're print AND online! That made me laugh. Uh, it's 2015. That isn't exactly pioneering.

Cisco said "cosmic treadmill"! (Well, "cosmic," but you know, in response to "what kind of treadmill is that?")

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

I bark-laughed like a hyena. "Put your hands -- FINS in the air!!" OH MY GOD.

I really liked Jefferson Jackson. They (him and Stein) are both going to Legends of Tomorrow, I presume? It'd be fun to see them return to The Flash from time to time. And since I'm living here and all... who's the person who's supposed to train them in Pittsburgh? Is it a comics canon thing? Curious minds, etc.

HARRISON WELLS, YES. Welcome back, you creeper.
