We killed a homeless man on this bench. Me and Dru. Those were good times. You know, he begged for mercy, and you know, that only made her bite harder.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

DW 4x08 so somewhere in the Doctor's future, his far far future, far enough that River Song seeing him now he looks young to her, he'll meet her when she's younger, probably some bored listless housewife just waiting to have her life made special by his presence (um, harsh! Not what I meant, I think, maybe). That or she doesn't learn about his regeneration, and he regenerates into an older body. But then she didn't give any indication that she recognized him in a different body, like other characters have done (Jack?)

Also, she has such a Mary Sue name, not that I think the character has reached that level in actions. But maybe I just like the actress.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

DW 4x08: River Song and Doctor Moon... how lyrical. I was also put off by the perfect bog standardness of the little girl's house. How do they untangle that one, that the CPU at the core of the Thermon Lux planet is some chick in 21st century London?

I got the very fixed impression that she recognised this incarnation of the doctor. She seemed that sort of specific. Recognising the Doctor in general is portrayed differently.

ita, so do you think that with the River Song recognizing the Doctor, they could possibly hold off on her reintroduction for years, with a possible 11th Doctor at the helm? It's that or David Tennant has to stick around for five and many more years before River Song could reasonably justify exclaiming "So young!"

I felt that's the corner they were pretty much painting themselves into, and very pointedly so. There is the chance that she's lying lying lying, but if she's to be believed, I don't see a way around that implication.

Bad Wolf

Yeah that makes me a little iffy

Plus we aren't sure that this is the Doctor's 10th incarnation, its the tenth actor, but he could be any where between 10 and 13. Of course The Master managed to go beyond 13 I believe, but he's not The Doctor of course. Just makes you wonder.

Actually, if you couple that with the ominous statement from some eps back, can't remember the context at all, but some character told the Doctor that his time was limited (Fires of Pompei?). And that could either mean that all incarnations of the Doctor are nearing their end, or David Tennant's Doctor is nearing his end. One means the show is gonna be over soon (wah!), the other means that David Tennant's run is going to over soon (wah again!).

That actually makes sense now that River Song exclaimed about the Doctor's age, because she knew him as a different Doctor, but wasn't sure if she was seeing an incarnation previous to her experiences with him, or after.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

DW 4.08

Another creepy as all get out episode, with a cliffhanger! Grrr. Don't wanna wait.

The time conundrum reminds me a little of the Time Traveler's Wife. The first time he meets his wife, she's been meeting him for ten years of her life. Her line is inexorably forward, while his is herky jerky. Any time she meets him, it will always be in her present. For him, it can be past or future, only tangentially his present, too.

Juliebird, I think you've got the right of it. She said at one point, let's compare diaries. It leads you to believe that while they know one another well, they don't live together. They have to have an external way of comparing timelines. Which also leads you to believe that she may know him as more than one of the Doctors. All future doctors to this one, but not this, not yet anyway.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

Sail, I had the same literary thought. Which also makes me think that she's gonna die and he goes into whatever relationship they have knowing how it's going to end.

I think the little girl is not real, that her whole world is a construction. Although there's also the issue of the dude whose family built the thing, which is an odd connection if it's not significant.

Nice call on the biography section, Julie. It would make sense with the books on the shelves when Callie (this is what I'm calling the little girl) was messing with the VCR. And the record being "saving" someone.

On a prop note, I want a notebook like River's. It can replace my french fry one when it's full.

All the names are a bit literary, lyrical, literal, something.

Art Crawl!!!

Did anyone else watch Heatstroke? It had more than Wayne Pygram from Farscape but I have to say that I wasn't seeing DB Sweeney/Danica McKellar.

(I can't believe that the IMDB entry doesn't mention WP - he was all over the Sciffy ads for the movie, so much so that I was surprised that DB Sweeney was the actual star.)
