Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon
A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
I believe there was one near-naked male in the wide shot of SexBot, Inc. But I certainly never saw him (or others) again after that.
Other than that pretty much everything you said is pretty spot-on. I'm enjoying the show, but I'm hoping/expecting improvement as it finds its voice.
Where is the demographic diversity I see in Brooklyn Nine-Nine?
For the demographic of race:
- ex-girlfriend
- partner that dies
- cop that hates him
- black market doctor
- Dorian
- at least one MX in a pan of the cop shop
- sexbot prime
- woman being harvested for sexbot prime
I didn't see a lot of different ages, and I can only think of three women (I have had the hots for that Asian cop for twenty years now, i swear. She was recently a nurse on SPN) in law enforcement, but the cop that hates McCoy was complaining to a female cop, wasn't he? Or was he complaining to Minka?
Orlando's latest tweeted video: "I once was white, but now I'm chocolate".
I love Monday nights.
Me too. Even if I don't get to see the lineup until Tuesday, if I'm lucky.
I was pleasantly surprised by the sexbot episode. Some touching moments, compassion towards the androids (and not all from Dorian), a clear connection between the exploitation of synthetic women and the exploitation of human women. Worked for me.
Also, glass armonica! Awesome!
I've decided it was the theremin of the 18th century.
I was surprised by a huge instrument I'd never heard of. I felt shamed. I wonder if the guy who didn't know suicide knew this. Like, what does he know?
I just rewatched TNG's "The Inner Light", and now I think I'm going to be crying all day.
OMG yes.
In other 20 year old sci fi TV news, I have started Babylon 5 season 5. I bailed before Season 5 when I watched it 10 years ago. G'Kar continues to be awesome, and Tracy Scoggins's eyes and teeth freak me out.
I was obsessed with glass armonicas for a while, but that was rather a long time ago, so my factual recall is suspect. Ben Franklin invented them. I want to say Mozart wrote for them. Some people thought the sound could make you lose your marbles.
It's an awfully clever idea.
I just watched a B7 episode that got me--the one where Tarrant's brother figts on behalf of a realm of planets while Avon suspects it's rigged, and Tarrant is tapped into his brother's experiences, and Dayna is feeling the opponent's feeling and Avon is trying to block Servalan...and the brother dies while his bro is plugged in and...aieee! I didn't expect feels from Blakes 7! I thought they'd atrophied, at least.
Nora: I hated Tracey Scoggins SO MUCH. Season 5 of Bab5 was such a failure, I swear.
the cop that hates McCoy was complaining to a female cop, wasn't he? Or was he complaining to Minka?
He was complaining to Minka.
