"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

The only thing that's the same as the original is the names.

The clothes are all wrong for any era in this universe, and the "science" is more than laughable. And Dracula is wearing a wristwatch.

So drinking a LOT is what you're saying. Good thing I bought dry sparkling wine so I can make Death in the Afternoons!

Because books.

I don't know. Unlike Reign, where the historical inaccuracies appalled me, this provides more of a framework for an actual series. Giving Dracula a vendetta reaches back to the time of his death is interesting, and giving Mina more to do than sit around pining for Jonathan doesn't bother me either.

What I guess I missed is, who is Lady Jane and the guy she brought the severed head to? Are they vampires, too? (I am watching sort of half-assed, I'll admit.)

I don't think I can be down with Van Helsing being on his side, though. And Lady Buffy!Jane was a little startling.

I am guessing Lady Jane and the guy who was the recipient of the severed head are current day members of the Order of the Dragon, who Dracula seems to hate with the fiery passion of a thousand burning suns. Don't know who the guy was who he fought the duel with on the rootop, though.

WAIT WAIT WAIT there's something about Dracula being against the Order of the Dragon?! Good grief, I haven't started watching this show yet, and I'm already eying the absinthe bottle.

I'm going to want to set the writers on fire, aren't I?

Oh yes, unless I misunderstood his speech to Renfield, he said that 400 years ago the Order used to murder and pillage and rape and burn people alive "as they screamed for a God that never came." Nowadays they use their positions as the heads of corporations and at the head of society to do dastardly deeds. We also learned that Buffy!Jane and man-who-had-head-delivered-to-him covered up a previous series of vampire attacks by staging them as the Jack the Ripper killings. So apparently the Order hunts vampires and covers up vampire deaths.

blinks

I think I may need to arrange all my copies of Dracula to make a fort to hide in during this show.

Oh! That makes sense now, in, uh, context.

Jilli, I'm not a diehard Dracula fan -- I'm not sure I've ever read the book the whole way through. And the Order of the Dragon means nothing to me! Should it? (i.e. I don't remember it from any of the movies I've seen.)

Wasn't Vlad Dracul the head of the Order of the Dragon?
