I could live without the Evil Mother plot, which Tim said he saw coming from a mile away.
I admit to some squeeing at his sister being Speedy (love the accuracy with the drug use) and his BFF being Tommy Merlin, holy crapsticks.
I'll watch it again. He was kinda hunky. And Tommy Merlin was entirely too cute.

I think so, yeah. There are things that are clearly references to the comics (mostly characters -- Speedy and Tommy Merlin, for instance), but I don't think anyone needs to know their comic equivalents in order to understand/appreciate the show. At all, really.
