'Life of the Party'

Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

W13--my memory is correct that Jinks was taking the damage and Claudia was feeling the pain, right?

Yes.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Episode 7 of season 1 of Teen Wolf--the revelation that the alpha wants Scott to kill his friends is big--the fact that Scott wanted to is bigger--and the director chooses to sell that impact with Stiles open face and then cut to Scott's bowed and shadowed face.

It's clear this is a two lead show--Scott's the title character, the one the "things" are happening to, but Stiles is both Everyman and more than we are--he's the brains of the operation, with no little heart.

I'd say that Scott is pure instinctual knowledge and good heartedness, while Stiles matches his goodness but brings the tangential genius to the party. They're such a great team.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Teen Wolf passes the test that Mundanes Count.

It would be easy to have Stiles be just the comic relief, especially because Dylan O'Brien is so good at it. He's more the cavalry, if cavalry is defined as one scared guy armed with a rock.

I do realise that the things that were frustrating me about Vampire Diaries (because I couldn't find them) are here, in Teen Wolf. It's pretty much precisely how I'd have fixed it. So, I'm sad that it's a summer show, because I'll still turn to TVD during the rest of the year, but at least I've put my finger closer to my dissatisfaction.

Both shows have a small down with a ridiculously high density of supers, and a cavalier attitude to turning, etc, but from Teen Wolf, I get more the HS focus, and I get people who want to do good, and, like you say--Mundanes Count. And it's not a who-loves-who angstfest. There isn't a romantic triangle at the core of the tension, or anything (unless you count Stiles/Lydia/Jackson, which....yeah).

I'm glad they're pretty much doubling the ep count next season. That will be fun.

Hey there! Just finished mainlining box set of season 1 of Teen Wolf, on top of the first 3 or 4 eps of season 2 that i caught as they aired in the UK and I am liking it VERY much. I know where ita's coming from re: Stiles/Derek, though; I think Stiles reads as bi, on the whole, but in canon I've been more convinced by his crush on Lydia than struck by chemistry between Stiles and Derek. (I mean, I'll read it and all, but it's not exactly Dean/Castiel in terms of on-screen slashiness, y'know?) But they do get flung together a lot, and they bicker a lot (the angry stripping scene was HILARIOUS) and work well as a team, so there's plenty of groundwork for shippiness to be developed - but I don't think it's actually all that slashy a dynamic in canon. Yet.

Aww, I am LOVING how much more inclusivity there is in this show compared to BtVS season 1; could be better, but it's still moving in the right direction.

Derek is the failiest werewolf in fail town, isn't he? Having just watched the season 1 finale I was a bit gobsmacked that he didn't even take Peter down himself, really. (or at all, I understand.) I have come to the conclusion that he is basically Stitch, only taller and less blue, but just as desperate to build a little broken family of his own. (ETA and less fun; really, Hiddleston's Loki is Stitch, but Derek gets cute'n'fluffy grumpdom married with Winchesteresque levels of guilt and yearning for family, so...)

Every time I see Jackson, I imagine a little lizard wearing sunglasses. I blame tumblr.

Also - crikey, Isaac is played by a Brit! Didn't know that!

Ahem. Hello, lovely people! TV - it's a cracking invention, eh?
