Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

I'm going to be yelling at the screen, aren't I?

Yes, yes, you are.

I'm going to call it magic. But my fondness for apocalyptic scenarios will require me to watch it, at least the first few episodes.

Except it's JJ Abrams, who has yet to fail to disappointment me.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I liked JJ!Star Trek, and plan to like the sequel, but this TV thing is highly dodgy. Maybe he's better with short term concepts.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

There's no way to explain a world where apparently neurons still work, but building a windmill to turn your lights back on is impossible.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Except it's JJ Abrams, who has yet to fail to disappointment me.

All this aggravation ain't satisfactioning me.

...sorry. Today is Type Whatever You're Thinking Day.

I get what they're trying to do; "What if the electric things just didn't work anymore?" is an interesting premise. I just don't trust Abrams to be able to explain why they suddenly stopped working without making me want to force-feed him a physics textbook.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Me, I'm just wondering how long it would take a number of my relatives to die w/o electricity and the medical devices that need power. Not even figuring in starvation and disease caused by the breakdown in transportation and infrastructure.

Planes would fall out of the sky, reservoirs would flood, cars would crash... it's a pretty bleak scenario.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

All of this discussion fails to mention the true title of the show, which is Gustavo Fring, Wasteland Warrior (tm io9). The trailer is intriguing, but who knows?

hwæt

I’d rather see a show that’s set 100 years after electricity went away, where everything is steam-powered, and we communicate through clacks.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

There are a number of scenarios that could take away a big percentage of utility generation or make a lot of equipment unusable. Once again, though, ALL electricity would require a big rewrite of physics.

reservoirs would flood,

More things than you'd think have manual backups. A paranoid engineer is a good engineer. I've always thought you could have some great drama around finding people who know how to get around a lack of power. (I know. Shut up and write.)

Me, I'm just wondering how long it would take a number of my relatives to die w/o electricity and the medical devices that need power.

As an aside, this is one of the reasons I oppose electricity deregulation.

I do believe in killing the messenger, you know why? Because it sends a message. ~ Damon Salvatore

the pilot was written by JJ and Kripke. the trailer intrigued me and i like those kind of shows. so i'm in. at least for a few eps.
