The press about it has shifted to from "no energy" to "no electricity". Which doesn't quite answer the question of "how life?" but...it's something, I guess?

The clips in the upfront presentation don't reveal that - if I had to guess, I'd say figuring that out will be part of the arc.

I guess what I would need/want established in the first episode is a pretty consistent demonstration of what's broken. They can spend all the time in the world working out why, but first there has to be an even remotely plausible problem.
