Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

OUAT: I just finished watching this weeks episode and I thought Regina's transformation in fairytale land from sweet and innocent to evil was a little too abrupt.

Is it? That hadn't occurred to me. He's got the irresistible song. I kind of always figured that the sexiness of most artistic representations of sirens was more constructed in the mind of the person hearing the song than a real attribute of the siren.

I don't have my research sources handy, but I seem to recall from Greek mythology that sirens were monstrous harpy-like beings that lured sailors in with their songs to kill and eat them. The victims might have seen them as beautiful women, but I don't think they were supposed to objectively be such. (Of course since manatees are supposedly the basis of the mermaid myths, perhaps one didn't need magic songs OR physical beauty to seem alluring to ancient sailors...)

Unless you take into consideration the possibility that's she's just nuts. After all, back in fairytale land she was a full-grown adult who knew what her mother was capable of, yet she was unable to withstand Evil Mom. But she's been on this epic revenge quest because of a little girl, who had no idea who Evil Mom was, and had been unable to outwit her.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

The definition of siren in current English includes sexiness, so I don't feel that I'm reaching out to untrod lands in order to suggest that a manifestation of such should project same.

He does say "talking women out of their comfort zone is what he does." Incidentally, I'm sure the scene where Kenzie was purring as Bo and Dyson rubbed her feet inspired some really bad Kenzie/Dyson/Bo threesome fic. I will not seek out the bad Lost Girl fanfic. I will not seek out the bad Lost Girl fanfic.

I bet Dyson's had enough decades to really understand how to give a good foot-massage.

That all makes sense, but if the show was going to go there, I wish that they had given us some sense that she wasn't of sound mind before she snapped.

You mean some sign of it in her youth? Because there are lots of signs of later in her life, such as cutting her father's heart out for her spell. Unless you just view that as being pragmatic.

Yes, I did mean in her youth. You're right there is plenty of evidence that she is currently bug fuck, but I wanted a slightly slower progression of how she got there. Her going from saving Snow's life to wanting to gleefully wanting to make Snow's life miserable in a matter of one episode didn't flow well for me.
