Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Oooh!

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Ha! "And now my interstellar death-ray will probably be used as an instrument of war."

When I saw the blurb about Tesla's work being weaponized, my immediate thought was "The peace-loving genius who allegedly invented a death-ray for the US government and caused an earthquake in Manhattan in 1898? How dare they pervert the intent of his work like that!" Glad to see the show hung a lampshade on the irony.

Art Crawl!!!

OMG. That was good. Thank you, ita.

I wish we were going to see more of that show.

Chuck: so excited to have Tim DeKay on the show. Too bad that Matthew Bomer wasn't in this episode too.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I liked it, although it did really feel like Just Another Police Procedural, magic notwithstanding. But the magic elements were cool enough, and the ending was pretty sweet. Also, the music supervisor clearly likes Massive Attack.

Chuck: Has Sarah ever been into crazy acrobatics? That opening scene was badass, but it didn't feel like Sarah's fighting style. I actually liked the backstory stuff, though mostly I'm glad that Sarah's not pregnant. Secret Hungarian sister/heir to a fortune, that's at least something new.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

Oooh. This may answer the question of what to watch this afternoon. Thank you, ita.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Hey, no prob. Just sharing the wealth, that came via a post on IO9.

My god, the...something of the power plant pun is really making me roll my eyes even now.

I liked it a fair bit, and would probably have watched at least three or more episodes. I did not like Stockard Channing very much, though. I seem to remember her having control over more of the muscles of her face, and it made a difference to both expressions and diction. Kinda distracting.

I also wouldn't have paired Bamber and Callis. They're kind of boring together, although they're both capable enough actors. They just didn't have any spark between them. They don't have to be opposites or anything, but I didn't get any partnery electricity off them. They were two fairly good looking brunets, one with accent and one without, with no particular interactions or much in the way of standout characterisations. Although I did wonder at Bamber's character being so inept with magic --is that typical for a professional of his supposed calibre? Seems rookie.

I liked the rest of the casting and pairings, though. And would have liked to see where the long term conflict was going to go.

Also, the music supervisor clearly likes Massive Attack.

Probably placeholder music, it was mentioned.

Chuck: I think it's because Yvonne has never convinced me physically, but I found it disturbing to see her tied up and smacked around again by another bad man. At least next week it looks like there's a different woman chained to the chair. Still, they could stop dipping in that particular well any time now. Anyway, with Sarah/Yvonne, it looks abuse-y to me, whereas you can smack the shit out of Maggie Q all day, and all I'd say was "You'd better run far when you're done."

Heh, my response to the power plant pun was "Oh my God, did they really just go there? With a completely straight face? That is amazing."

Un-American, yes?
