But? There's always a but. When this is over, can we have a big 'but' moratorium?

Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Or are you better off with just pushing with a finger, easier aim and all that?

Better off with the finger. I think it would be tricky to get the right angle with a strike, and if you're strong enough that would hurt on its own, you might want to resort to a brawl instead.

Compassionately intolerant

Yep. If you apply pressure evenly up and back where the nose joins there, you can induce startling tearjerking pain, and also snap the head back, which shifts the attacker's centre of gravity.

Check. Added to the arsenal.

eta: dear old dad also advocated for a heel of the palm rammed up under the nose. Cartilage to the brain, he said. I never trusted that possibility.

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

This thread has gotten disturbingly offtopic. Please don't kill me for saying that.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

For the record, I don't think the philtrum trick will work on zombies.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Dana,

we are building a moat.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

For the record, I don't think the philtrum trick will work on zombies.

Probably depends on which kind of zombie.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

And how firmly attached the nose.

brillig

Don't you hate when the nose just pops off?

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

dear old dad also advocated for a heel of the palm rammed up under the nose. Cartilage to the brain, he said. I never trusted that possibility.

My self-defense instructor advocated that blow to the nose not so much because it was particularly likely to kill (according to her, you actually have to know what you are doing to succeed) but because it is more likely to break the nose - the pain and blood being good distraction particularly if the attacker is expecting you to be a weak, frightened woman who won't strike back. Not the least bit convinced a zombie would be at all bothered, however, so it won't help during the zombie apocalypse.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

If zombies aren't incapacitated by the painful sensation of their own flesh rotting, I don't think hits to sensitive nerve endings would be much use against them. Though if you're strong enough to drive the nose all the way through one's brain, have at it.
