I talked about it a bit in Natter- either the lead female is BRILLIANT at playing low affect, or she is terrible. I love the old men newspapermen, and Jesse's EXTRA LONG face is fascinating me.
I love the newspapermen. Jesse's face might well have been the model for the Scream mask. His abs are nothing to sneer at, though, and his scenes always have some life in them. I thought it was funny this past week though, that they're setting him up to be reformed (by giving him the Second Chances Restaurant) this early on in the series.
That restaurant episode was probably my least favorite because the magic didn't make any sense. The guy ate an ear of corn and got angry, so then his Hydrochloric Acid magicked out and infected more corn, but only corn that had been stored in the same crib? He ate an apple, got mad, and then the HCl magicked out and hit one group of trees at a certain orchard. So like, the magical HCl understands manmade boundaries? And it poisoned the ice cream and the cows, too? Huh?
Right now I'm going with lead actress (Emily Rose?) being a terrible performer. I'll believe otherwise when I see her face show a second expression.
Yes, she's Emily Rose (which I remember, because what a pretty name). I see what you mean, but when they give her good snarky lines, her delivery is great, and that's usually indicative of something.
It makes a sort of sense that Audrey is laconic. She's an FBI agent on special assignment in a freaky town, but she already believes in the freaky. It makes a sort of sense that Nathan is laconic and works in the sense that his low-key demeanor ties in well to his physical condition (the not feeling pain thing). But their scenes need a shot of caffeine or something.
Love them! Especially when they were helping her find a dress, and I suspect they know way more about her mom than they are letting on.
Me, too. In King's Colorado Kid book, from what I understand, the Audrey character wasn't a cop, but a cub reporter working for them. I don't know the real plot of that or how it is resolved, so this shouldn't be taken as a spoiler, since it's not the case on this show. I just hope that they stay around and get closer to Audrey, because they're adorable. If things don't work out for them, they could move to Eureka and start a local paper, there. They're just that cute. I did find it a little jarring to watch Audrey throw all her dresses right on them, though. It seemed out of whack with the Audrey we know. I didn't really get Nathan buying her local clothes, either. It seemed tossed on there.
I also want to know what the "not a real boy" thing is all about.
Yeah, because the sexual implication is making me kind of sad.
My biggest problem with it is the in EVERY single episode the person causing the trouble is the good guy/gal who has no idea of their destructive powers. Seriously. Every. Single. Episode.
Yeah, I didn't expect that either, because in the pilot, although the woman causing all the destruction didn't know her own powers, the other weather-guy knew his, so I expected/hoped for some self-awareness among some of the townies. I mean, enough of them seem to know about "the Troubles" (which always takes me to an I.R.A. sort of place).
