Who UK:

Well, then. Quite a pickle. I just have not enough time or the words to express my love for Rory. I haven't developed much feeling for Amy, but I like her more when he's looking at her and when she's looking at him. (I don't dislike the character, just... kinda eh.) Oh, and when the Doctor said to Rory, "You're going to have to be very brave," just as Amy walked in after waking up and didn't recognize Rory. Plotz. And he was, of course, very brave. And the scene where he kills her, and the look in her eyes, too - the utter shock and surprise that "Rory" didn't win the struggle. Oh, my romantic soul, the tragedy.

Eleven is awesome. He really just is. The way he can toss around a line - funny, moving, touching, scary. Good freaking actor, that boy.

And, finally: Dude, where's my universe?

Who UK: Maybe it was all the Indian Jones' references, but this was the first Moffat episode this series that I really, truly loved.

I haven't really liked Eleven all series. There were some episodes, like "Amy's Choice" when I thought Matt Smith gave a very good performance, but I still didn't like his Doctor. Until now - that scene when he first heard the 12000 Dalek ships and paused, so scared and tired before he sprang into action. And then the big speech which begins with loud static and "Sorry, sorry - dropped it." Just genius.

I'm really happy about this because until "Vincent & the Doctor" I was ready to give up on Moffat's DW - but the past three episodes have been FANTASTIC.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

How could they do that to Rory? I hope those who think he's not gone forever are right.

Compassionately intolerant

Who UK: The moment when 11 says, "Now, you will have to be very brave," to Rory was another of those ever so quiet, amazingly effective, throw away lines. I'm guessing that is Matt's contribution to the character. Love.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Why do you think that's Matt's contribution to the character, bonny? Does the Confidential say so?

I do like this Doctor, but not my favorite. Trying to figure out why. Something about not finding his madness not - believable is not quite the right word. Forced? closer ...

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

It just occurred to me that maybe this is not the optimal SyFy movie. I mean, crocs and gators are too similar - practically the same in some people's minds. You need two dissimilar yet equally awesome animals to fight. Mega Shark and Giant Octopus were a good combo.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

Who UK:

The pieces that are kicking around in my head:

Amy's life doesn't make sense. You know, like in a dream. That's a callback that didn't directly happen in part 1, so there could be some element of a dreaming going on.

There were lots of empty rooms in Amy's house. Like the flat upstairs where someone was trying to build a TARDIS. And River can fly the TARDIS.

This is earlier in River's timeline than the last time we saw her. Then, she was oblique about who taught her to fly the TARDIS. Now she's saying it was the Doctor. What happened in the interim? If I'm being dramatic, someone will show her how to fly in silence (You know, since SILENCE WILL FALL) (which, by the way, what the Hell does that mean?). And who could be that someone?

So, things I hope won't happen, but are supported in the text: "It was all a dream" "TARDIS Mark 2"

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

DW UK: !!! Er, so was that the universe disappearing? I thought it was just a fade to black, but now some of what you all are saying has me wondering.

So happy to see Rory again -- and so sad to realize he isn't real! Gah. Yes, the Doctor's line to Rory about being brave was a beautiful moment -- such compassion in the Doctor's voice, and the realization dawning on Rory (and me) that Amy doesn't know him. Ouch.

I am still confused as to what exactly is happening, and what the connection between Amy and the TARDIS exploding is, and what part River is playing, etc. etc. etc. I'm sure all (or at least much) will be made clear in the second part, but it's frustrating to feel like things were being explained that I couldn't understand. I suspect I'll have to go back and rewatch this ep once the second half airs.

(It's pretty funny seeing everyone watching the BBCA airings going "Noooo, Rory, I hope he comes back!" Oh, he will, but it won't be any less painful.)
