The show is usually not the master of subtlety. But I don't care. It was very cute.
Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon
A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
It was that, yes!
Andrea made the observation that The Doctor is a total ball hog.
On Confidential, it is also suggested that Matt is a trained cook as well. Don't know if it was a joke, but it got me thinking. He's a timelord, he's a footie star AND a dab hand in the kitchen. Ha! He's Buckaroo Bonzai!!
UK Who: It took me way longer than it should have to "get" the "11" on the Doctor's jersey. I wonder if there were any meta-reasons for the lack of Amy in the episode? It seemed like all of Amy's scenes could have been shot in an afternoon. I watched the Confidential to see if it was mentioned, but there was nothing.
Jon, in the Confidential it was shown that it was based on tht comic strip [link] , so they had to get Amy stuck in the tardis for the story to work.
OTOH? I found it interesting that The Doctor already has the mad football skills in the comic strip. Nice coincidence.
As for not using "Mr Smith" I wonder if having the lead actually named Mr Smith was an issue. Maybe, maybe not.
Daniel, they made lots of changes from the comic. Although I do get that the basic premise of "The Lodger" is the Doctor gets a room on his own, they could have found a way to use Amy more if they'd wanted to. I'm just wondering if there was a meta-reason they chose not to.
Oh, as usual, dear.
Billie Piper and Matt Smith in a scene together:
May be NSFW, I dunno, I was too boggled.
ETA: Not Dr. Who related, and already aired on Showtime in the US.
I can only think that the meta-reasoning was that the Doctor and Amy could not share the room without taking all the attention away from the story. It would be all about hehheh. She had to stay SOMEwhere and the TARDIS was more convenient than, 'oh look, there just happens to be 2 rooms on the same block.
And while I haven't read the comic, what pictures they showed didn't include a companion at all. Anybody know if there was one?
Jon, I totally missed the "11" on the jersey. D'oh!
As for the meta-reasoning, they traditionally have one episode a season that doesn't have the Doctor or Companion in it very much, to give them a break ("Love and Monsters," "Blink," and then in the fourth season they had the Donna-lite "Midnight" and the Doctor-lite "Turn Left"). I hadn't expected the Doctor to be in this one very much at all, given the trailer. Instead, it was Amy-lite. Maybe Matt Smith gets no break this year.
