I thought it started out strong but lost its way pretty quickly. OTOH it's only 6 eps, so it's not a huge time investment if you do decide to watch. There was a lot about it that worked, it just needed more focus.

What was the final consensus with the new Prisoner -- worth watching?
I was kind of eh. It's not that I didn't like the story, it's that too many questions were unanswered at the end. They did some interesting stuff with it, though.

I would say that it's not great art, but it's worth watching, for where it goes off-track as much as for where it works.

I will now admit I started watching and quickly realized I was totally uninterested and deleted them. I ended up liking the original quite a bit, but had no patience for the remake.

Had I not watched the original, I think that I would agree with you (okay, actually I was bored, too) But, I did want to see what they did with it, but quickly lost interest in how they got there. I mean, with the original Prisoner, you still don't know what the fuck was going on. With this one, you at least got a resolution, even if it was thoroughly unsatisfactory.

I'd love to have been around when the final episode first aired. People must have been sooooo "WTF??!???!?!?" I mean, that kind of serious mindfuckery was not the kind of thing that turned up on television back then. Even post-Twin Peaks it's still pretty rare, but not unprecedented.

But don't you think every generation has its own WTF? When the original aired, there were all kinds of weird psychedelic stuff going on in pop culture - sometimes a scene, sometimes more.
For example, in "Point Blank" with Lee Marvin (same year as "The Prisoner"), there were a couple of weird ass scenes where he went to a club and they just took 10 minutes out to play music, have go-go dancing and just set a mood. It took me right out of the movie, but I find that pop culture in the 60s had these random aspects of weird.
After "Twilight Zone", I suppose anything was possible.

Yeah, I always forget about the Twilight Zone (and the Outer Limits for that matter), which is odd, because I'm a big fan. The weirdness of The Prisoner still seems way out there, though. I think it was the absolute refusal to resolve anything in a way that made sense that did it for me.
