Tara: What's so bad about them coming here? Aren't they good guys? I mean, Watchers, that's just like whole other Gileses, right? Buffy: Yes! They're scary and horrible!

Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

Why? Why did I watch? Maybe it was the train wreck thing, or maybe I just have some secret fondness for the Stargate universe in spite of all the times I wanted to scream at the writers for various horrifying ideas and Not Getting It moments.

Eli irritated me far less than I expected, for which I applaud the actor. He could have so been the Wesley, and I found him somehow more human. That could change in an instant, of course. Ming Na... hardly appeared.

I really don't intend to stay for the unsettling things I've heard about, but I wanted to see how it opens. My main first impression, compared only with the other two series pilots, is that I really don't much care what happens to these people. Okay then.

My worry is that these are Stargate writers trying to do BSG, and I fear it will not go well in the long term.

This very thing.

ETA: OK, I saw the clip for next week, and now I feel better, because LDP is kind of a huge draw for me. I was so confused that he was barely in the premier and didn't seem to be on the ship. Very confused. I guess he'll join via communication stones? Whatevs. Long as he's there.

Thrive to spite them

I haven't read much about SGU, is it like BSG because Earth gets destroyed?

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Earth is still around, but the ship they're on is 7 million light years away and counting, so the crew is (almost) as isolated as if they were the last humans alive. And the tone is all gritty and shakycam. And Robert Carlyle's character is basically Baltar on Xanax.

I haven't trusted science since I saw the film "Flubber."

And Robert Carlyle's character is basically Baltar on Xanax.

Is that good or bad?

Heh - depends on how much you like Baltar and/or Xanax, I suppose. So far he's the best thing about the show, but mainly because none of the other characters have done anything to even remotely distinguish themselves from the background yet.

He's not explicitly evil, but he's the kooky smart British guy who nobody trusts even though he's the only guy who knows how to do almost everything. All he's missing is the invisible girlfriend and the crazy eyes.

I can't decide if it's Rush or Eli who's supposed to be the Mary Sue this time. And yeah, LDP did kind of vanish early on, didn't he? That was disappointing.

Compassionately intolerant

Upthread, I mentioned working my way through SG-1. I've done that and am now near the end of Atlantis S2. It's been a delightful string of 'Hey it's that guy! (gal, storyline)' moments. Even the voodoo woman and Chang from True Blood. How cool is the Canadian actor and/or sci fi fraternity pool?
