New England is probably iced over, but here in NYC it's 3 or 4 degrees above freezing, so all we've got is cold miserable rain.

Downstate IL always seems to get the rain/ice combinations that end up heading towards DC up to NJ and NY, whereas our snow goes to upstate NY and New England. Which is only one of the reasons why I'm glad I don't live in Peoria or Springfield.

I prefer rain to snow. But a) I'm driving, not walking and b) other drivers seem to freak out moderately less. Note, I said moderately. Someone ran a red at every single intersection this morning. And there are probably 15-20 on my way in.
We are actually under liberal leave. For rain. (to be fair, I guess while the city and south has rain, north & west are supposedly ice.)

We live close enough to the rain/ice line that schools were delayed for two hours in our suburban school district. But the Federal Government opened on time, and we had no ice-related commute problems -- just those you'd expect when it's dark and the rain's coming down heavy.
If it's snowing, it's cold. If it's raining, it might be warm. On the other hand, I'm more likely to get the day off because of heavy snow than heavy rain. But light snow is more likely to mess up my commute than rain at any level.

No shit. In some book on B'more (I think it was Charm City:A Walk Through Baltimore, but not positive.) I was very amused to see the practice of "light turns green, wait for everyone to finish running the red, then go" mentioned in it (at least I think it was that book.) If it is mentioned nationally in print, it must be cultural, not just perception, right?
I don't want to deal with management first thing in the morning....

Yeah, it was a bitch to make it to the bus stop, but I'm fine. We have about 6-8 inches by my apartment, and it was still falling heavily when I left. But I was only about 10 minutes late to work this morning.
