I am distracted. cannot focus on work!

I feel like this is permanent state for me. The week after next, I am supposed to "Work from home". I have no idea how I'm going to get anything done.

I wish I could bring my cat to work.

Me too. But since we're not even supposed to eat at our desks here, I can't imagine how they would react to live animals.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I feel like this is permanent state for me.

I'm blaming mine on my meds. Which is why I was up working at 5.

Well, that's very sensible. Imagine all the hair you'd ingest if you were eating at a live animal--not to mention the dramatically increased risk of spillage.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

A biofuel startup in Illinois can make ethanol from just about anything organic for less than $1 per gallon, and it wouldn't interfere with food supplies, company officials said.

Huh. My first reaction was skepticism, but the article sounds like this is a real possibility....

Of course, the whole thing is being funded by some fly-by-night tech company called "General Motors"....

Rather than fermenting that gas or using thermo-chemical catalysts to produce ethanol, Coskata pumps it into a reactor containing bacteria that consume the gas and excrete ethanol.

It's bacteria poop!

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Corn is about the worst choice for making ethanol, from efficiency, environmental, just about every perspective. Well, puppies would be worse I guess. But not by much.

My boss's dog comes and visits me (for petting) on most days.

I wish. Then I could just blame it on that. As is it, I have to live in a carefully constructed fantasy world where the hair is invisible and no one ever notices it. So I'm LA LA LAing your post, Jesse, sorry.

You could go for a hairless animal.

A hairless cat, for example.

I am amazed at how much fur my cat has. She's actually very tiny, but she looks normal-sized from all the fur....

Coding and Sleeping

Guess we'll see if they can scale the process up. I think that is the problem with using bacteria to produce butanol, it works on a small scale but doesn't scale yet. BP is working on making butanol, so hopefully something will come out of that. Butanol is a lot better fuel than ethanol.

Couldn't agree more. The push for corn ethanol is a bit of a sham.

I wonder if one could make ethanol from dog and cat fur....

eta: Or dust bunnies.
