The one odd thing about the name Frances is it had a brief resurgence in some circles in the 90s when Courtney Love named her daughter Frances Bean. So when Franny does meet another random Frances, she's usually about 9 or 10 or so and hence she earns great reverence from my daughter.

Jilli, did Clovis have something to do with this?
I had no idea that Ava was at all a unisex name.
(My other niece's name is not in the top 100: Maya. Unless I missed it.)

Hee! No, but he approves.
How the hell can Brooklyn be the #43 girl's name?
JZ is right that people get excited when they hear Matilda's name. I don't know if that means she'll always be a quaint novelty or that we're on the bleeding edge of girl baby naming.
We've actually run into a (very small) number of Emmetts around the Bay Area. Often by repute. "Oh, I know a kid named Emmett." But it's (I think) in a class of names that's popular around here being vaguely Irish/Scottish. That whole batch of Duncan/Connor names.
The few I've met were grandpas, so I sort of think of "Emmett" fitting in with "Max" and "Sophie" and names like that. Because they are coming back in, and stuff.
I think with the resurgence of "old fashioned" names, Matilda will be having her day in a few years. You're jsut cutting edge when it comes to tiny humans.
Frances makes me think of that children's book series. I dont' remember what kind of animal she is, but...

Probably the latter. Lillian's experienced quite the resurgence in the last few years, and when she was wee, people were always excited by the name.
We've gotten the same reactions to Annabel's name, FWIW.
Hey Susan, do you work at the hospital that starts with an H? I'll be there in the morning, getting my head checked! I will wave in your direction. Assuming I manage to get up, get there, and find the damn place by 7:30AM. BLEH.
