The co-worker who had parked their car next to mine is apparently having a Monday, as well--he/she left her lights on. I called it in to the security desk with the hang-tag number so the guard can let the person know. Then, I found out that the payroll system is also having a Monday, since there was a changeover in servers over the weekend that obliterated our payroll submissions from last week. No big deal, we just had to resubmit this morning, but I'm sure they weren't happy to discover the screw-up.
The good thing about the changeover is that, apparently, they changed their mind on the status of last Monday (NYE), and decided to give it to us as a holiday. So, everyone will be getting an extra day off this year to make up for either working that day or taking it as PTO.

That made me panic for a second, as Monday is payroll day for our big client (we wrote their payroll system) and my boss who usually deals with it is out of town. Then I remembered that he's actually at the client's offices today, so I guess I don't need to worry about it after all....
My brain is taking a Monday. Unfortunately, the rest of me has to be in class(es). Maybe if I take my brain out and attach electrodes, I could jumpstart it?
A bunch of pretty, artsy light bulbs (made to look like hot-air balloons): [link]

Cool lamps: [link] They have "The Titanic lamp"
due to the way it's shaped, appears to be sinking into any surface you put it on
The site is Flash, so I can't link directly to it....
but you take your kicks where you can get them.
Above the waistline, sunshine.
It's pissing down rain here. Ugh. We're so not leaving the house today.
I have 2 coworkers out. It's the Monday after a Saturday class that wasn't on site (this means much fielding calls and making calls to schedule appointments). I'm having particularly needy phone calls all morning. I need to learn everything I can about trends in oil and gas for my interview which I stupidly scheduled for 9 am on the day after LSU plays in the BCS championship which I'm watching at the bar.
I need a smoke.

Anyone heard of The Decapitator? There's a guy in London who is modifying advertising posters (like, at bus stations) to make it appear as if the models in the photos have been decapitated.
Um, I guess it's some anti-capitalist art thing.
Here's a Flickr page with more of this guy's, um, work: [link]
eta: Are decapitated advertising models worksafe?
This day is not so bad, as Mondays go.
ION, everyone should have wills, POA, and the like. Especially people with kids. It continues to shock me that people so often let this slide.
Other tips to add to Kat's earlier link:
In general, minors should not be direct beneficiaries of anything unless you don't care that they may not have access to the funds while children, or will have full control of all monies at 18 (as early as 16 in some states). If you want them to inherit you should establish a trust.
Also, the legal guardian for children does not have to be the financial trustee, in fact, it's often better that they are not (not for theft reasons, but for investment mgmt reasons).
