I believe Dr. Satan was before my time. What was he/she like?
Before Adam? Not a man among us can remember.
Er, I think he was... nice. Knowledgeable.
He was cool, in several ways.
(I was thinking about saying no graphing calculators, but I decided to see how it goes this time.)
The Navy solved that by only letting us use calculators with 25 keys or less on our rating exams. Not that anything we did required having graphing functions, but there were a few things that were made just a tad harder. They took my calculator away from me one year (I didn't count the keys, sigh) and I ended up doing all my math by hand. It wasn't a huge problem, except for the fact we had a three hour time limit and that test took me down to the wire. I realized partway through the test I was using 10 to the fourth for 1000 instead of 10³. Duh.
edited because there's no html entity for superscript 4. Bummer.

Thanks, Tom! I know I won't remember that, but at least now I know it exists and I just need to keep looking on the chart.

yes, he was. I still have an email address for him somewhere, maybe I'll ping him, just for giggles.
I did my usual wake-up-at-1:30-and-do-stuff routine, except since I'm in a hotel room, that meant I could surf the net, watch TV, etc. Plus I wasn't freezing my ass off, because the hotel room is in San Diego.
I'm now sitting at a marina watching a yellow tomcat, approximately the size of a lynx, patrol the deck of each sailboat, look in the portholes, and basically make sure all is well.
We should have "Come Back to B.org Day." One day where all the Old Ones (who want to and can manage) hang out with us....
