My personal favorites are the ones who email me with something like, "I don't understand #2. Am I supposed to add x?" Fairly impossible to answer if I don't have the textbook in front of me. And if they email me on a weekend, it's a pretty sure bet that I don't have the textbook with me.
This is the first time in a while where I've been teaching a class where calculators are allowed on tests. (I get to set the calculator policy this time. I've got no problem with calculators.) I realized that I had to make a rule that they can't use the calculator functions on their cell phones, they've got to use a calculator without communication abilities. (Yes, the HP graphing calculators have infrared links, but that can't be done inconspicuously during a test.) (I was thinking about saying no graphing calculators, but I decided to see how it goes this time.)

In mememe news, I am writing a blog post for our library blog about chess. Some how I seem to have gotten myself into a really complicated blog post - lots of links and research. and I chose this. I'd really like to get the basics done tonight so I am fact checking and polishing tomorrow, but ummm... this is hard.
Rough post finished. tomorrow I get to clean it up - before I go to work?I guess it doesn't have to be before work, but I would like it done before anyone tries to ask me about it.

we had a rough kid night too. Ellie wet the bed but didn't tell me. Instead we both fell back asleep with her leaning on the bed standing next to me. I didn't realize she was wet until I woke up an hour later, picked her up, and her legs were freezing

Well, I kind of have a stupid staff meeting this morning at 9am, so I've got to be up and about much earlier than usual on a work day. But it is good because it means they are not having the stupid staff meeting on my day off.
And the cats let me sleep until 7:40.

I'm getting more and more worried about calculators. I'm trying to help a kid with his algebra, and he's doing 6 minus 3 on his calculator. The kid's a senior in high school, and fairly bright.
