No worries. I just got home about 10 minutes ago. See you when you get home.
Spike's Bitches 39: Cuppa Tea, Cuppa Tea, Almost Got Shagged, Cuppa Tea...
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
Holy crap, one of my co-workers died this weekend. I didn't know him very well, but I knew him. Holy crap. I'm so confused.
Yeah. "It's always sudden."
Went to the funeral of a co-worker today, someone who worked in the cube-across-the-aisle from me all last fall. She moved to a different shift in November, so we've only seen each other in passing since then, long enough to say "Hi" and "Bye" and not much more.
Common cold to bronchitis to pneumonia to ICU with ventilator to staph infection to dead in 14 days.
Disconcerting.
I am at the laundromat. All 4 of the 5-load washers are running with about one load in each. There is more soap than clothes!! All I can think is, what a waste of water, not to mention them clothes gonna cause some major itch if all that soap doesn't rinse out.
Oh, God, dcp, that's awful. That poor woman.
And {{P-C}}.
Kitty~ma to GC's Josie.
Must go now. Hec is slounged on the couch and Matilda is cheerful, chatty and mellow; can't squander this opportunity for family time that doesn't involve heavy-duty baby wrangling/wrassling.
ok - I put this up on my blog for people having bad mondays
Aww.
I just finished reading The Subtle Knife. Want more book. Bookstore not open until the morning. Feh.
My students have a midterm tomorrow at 10. I'm wondering how many emails I'll get after midnight with questions about the material. My guess is three. (I've got 29 students. Many of whom get very perturbed if an email isn't answered within about two hours, even if it's sent in the the middle of the night. I know of some people who've set up email office hours -- just told everyone, "If you send me an email, it will be answered between three and four the next day.")
Oh! Also, my friend had her baby, but wasn't able to invite everyone to come to the birth, because the baby arrived really quickly -- she felt like she might be going into labor, went to the birthing center, and the baby was born literally two minutes after they got there. (This baby had very good timing. If he'd come about four hours earlier, it would have been while his mother was in the middle of a job interview.)
Wow, Hil, that's crazy!
Sympathies to the sad coworker deaths, eep!
I spent yesterday and today with my old coworkers (from DC, not from Seattle). They were in Portland for a conference, so Sunday we drove around and looked at waterfalls and pretty vistas, and today we went to wineries. And talked a lot about sex. It was pretty funny--I rarely talk that explicitly with good friends of mine, so I'm glad I don't WORK with them anymore!
Vortex, that sounds like a shitty day indeed.
Thanks everyone for the sympathy. My day came to a great end with dinner with one of my best friends. Really good meal, great convo. Came home, watched SCC and did my toenails. they're blue!
Much sympathy on the coworker deaths.
In mememe news, my workplace is getting crazy again just as I thought it was going sane. Without going into too many specific and identifying details, it's just...ugh. People storming out of meetings. People pulling manipulative bullshit to try to get their way and split the factions even more than they already are. Me feeling completely caught in the middle. I had sort of an inner dialogue going with one of the characters in my WIP (yes, I regularly talk to my imaginary people) wherein he pointed out that in his day someone would've been challenged to pistols at 20 paces by now, and maybe that wasn't ALWAYS a bad thing. Me: "Are you kidding? They'd all want me to be their second."
Apparently the powers that be over us are bringing in a consultant later this month to try to sort things out. If there's not real progress soon I'm putting my resume back out there, because this place has gone NUTS. At least everyone respects me, with one possible exception, and she's not my boss, which is an improvement over the last job, but STILL. I'd like to go to work and do my job without feeling like I need to duck and cover every time the senior staff are in the same room.
Oh goodness, I am so sorry to hear about the coworkers' deaths. That is disconcerting and upsetting.
I left a comment in your LJ, Vortex, so I'm just going to use this space to give you a virtual hug. {{{you}}}
Susan, sorry work is sucking.
Hil, that's insane! Nice to have such a speedy labor, I bet. Wow. Also, I hear you on the students expecting intso-email no matter when they send it. I've got mine trained now, but it took a little while.
Kristin, I fully admit to being more than a little jealous of you today. Hearing Kushner talk has to have been an amazing experience. It was...there aren't words. Best speaker I have ever heard. I think I am a little bit in love with Kushner, gay or not. Also? I have his email address (!!). I will not abuse it. But I want to. A little. I have become a Kushner fangurl, who knew?
