And yes, I know what you mean about the enormity of the Very Bad. I think the simplicity of the story he told was what made it so powerful for me. That and the way he implored the room full of LA girls, many very privileged, to make a difference in their world through love. It was no longer a cliche when he said it.

I met Mark Mathabane in '87 or '88 when he came to speak at the University of Iowa. I don't recall how I got to be part of the small reception committee. I thought he was strong and gentle and amazing. Years later I heard that a lot of the stories in his books had been fabricated but I can't find anything about that on the internet today. I hope it turned out not to be true.

We know we want to spend several days in Paris and several days in Rome. Then we're thinking of a 1-2 day trip to another part of France and then one to another part of Italy. I'm getting so excited and it's over a year away.
