[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

I can't cite my source, I'm remembering an NPR interview I heard over a year ago, but I think the sex offender statutes are so broad, and the Megan's Law website so misleading, that a guy who was arrested for masturbating in his car appears to have been convicted of sex with a minor under the age of 14.

move out and draw fire

Happy Birthday BeVERly!

After my mom was diagnosed with ALS (well, actually, at some point after she lost the use of her legs), my parents put me in counseling. I was 12, and all the counselor really wanted me to say was that my father was sexually abusing me. Which couldn't have been farther from the truth, and made me absolutely distrust all psychological counseling for years and years.

This is another facet of why it would be beneficial for our culture to be more supportive and accepting of people who really are victimized this way - it would make it less of an obsession.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

Happy birthday, bev! May the day be filled with peace and tranquility, with an added dash of fun to make things interesting.

bonny, I have no words. You are a wonderfully brave, strong and loving woman. Thank you for sharing.

{{{Nora}}} I'm so sorry this is happening to you and people you care about it.

Little Miss Muddy Face is adorable.

I just had lunch with Maria, and I can't believe it took us a year to tear ourselves away from our respective desks to do so. Craxy!

I know! It's insane!

Hey, I'm even closer to you than Maria, and you never want to have lunch with me! mopes

We should ALL get together for lunch!

We three should have lunch!

Bwah! Inevitable x-post.

Exactly. If we didn't create so may places to hide, there would be no reason to hide! The whole false memory thing boils my blood.

I had one therapist tell me that she was sure I have repressed memories. I can guarantee you I do...and that's okay because, frankly, I remember plenty and, further more, so WHAT? It isn't the detail that matters, it's what you do with what you have.

Thrive to spite them

Happy Bev Day!!!

There have been a couple of articles here in Florida about sex offenders and housing issues. The latest was about a group who are homeless and living under a bridge, they have a community there with tents and generators and things like that, but the city is trying to get them to move. Only there's no place for them to go.

Another article was about a group of convicted offenders who were living in a mobile home park, actually the park is almost all offenders and a couple of the men interviewed talked about how they were policing themselves to make sure no one was doing anything wrong and they wouldn't get kicked out.

I'm not sure what to do about the situation but they have to live some place and I think the laws need to be changed so it's easy to find out exactly what kind of offense someone has been charged with.

ION I have my first project at work! I've been asked to organize the blood drive and I'm very excited.

The ironic thing was, as I thought "Hey, I could walk there in 15 minutes" immediately followed by the realization that I had no time!

Mostly lurking...

Happy Beverly Day!

I dropped Ellie off at school. She seemed to really enjoy introducing everyone to her new brother. She also took a little scrapbook with pictures from her trip and her teacher showed it to the class. She seemed to like that too. None of the other kids knew what the snow was which was funny.

Awwwww!

The friend of the family that died just after Thanksgiving? My dad's best friend? His widow just died today (also a close friend of the family of course). Of a stroke.

Oh, fuck. I’m so sorry, Nora.

some of the negative effects - particularly the validating stasis - that can occur in support groups.

This is one of the things I LOVE about DBT. The point of it is to get you out of it--get you the skills so you no longer need the groups and the therapy. And while I’m all about the validating, it’s only ok as long as it’s validation on the path to something better.

bonny, thanks for sharing, you.
