I am not...I am not the damsel in distress. I am not some case. I have to work this. I've lived in a cave for 5 years in a world where they killed my kind like cattle. I am not going to be cut down by some monster flu. I am better than that. What a wonder...how very scared I am.

Happy birthday, KristinT and Maria!

Yay, Fay!

Boo hiss, failed harddrives.

So what would be a good going-away prezzie for my supervisor who is going away? I'd give her a jar of skin goop, except I just gave her some last week (she brought me a bunch of clean empty jars, so I filled a one up for her). She's been awesome for the residents at that group home, and I consider her a friend. I'm not sure anyone else is thinking about anything for her, and I would hate to see her go with no token of appreciation.

Whoah! Fay, that's a LOT! Congratulations!

We had a mock primary today in first period. One of my students claimed to be deciding between "Obama, McCain, and Ron Paul." Oh, the humanity. Thank goodness he's not old enough to vote.

He also tried to explain to me the Hilary-hate. He seems to think she's an extremist, and this country needs someone more in the center than out on the fringes.

Fringes? Clinton? I swear, nobody knows why they hate her!

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

Flowers are always lovely? Or jewellery? I like jewellery, because it reminds me of the giver any time I wear it.

It's nice to see some brave pretenders trying to make it interesting.

Happy Birthday, Maria & Kristin - The Wonder Birthday Twins.

I need to back up my hard drive again. I have experienced the Great Hard Drive Failure of 2006. Actually, it was sort of the Great Life Failure. I ended a relationship, lost all my pictures and business data, and got bronchitis. All in January. It was super fun.

Man, I have almost no paid work today. It's depressing.

But locally produced or certified conflict-free! These are my recently-discovered causes. Terrible things happen to get us flowers and diamonds. It's alarming!

Oooh, flowers. We have some really nice places around here that do flowers and plants and all kinds of nifty stuff that they produce themselves.

Compassionately intolerant

Do you have a local Craigslist?
Yes, and freecycle too. If I go that way, can I zap the drive with a magnet or something, just in case anything survived?

Also, is the HDD deaddeaddead or could one of us try recovering it for you?

I would LOVE that, but I see two potential problems.

The spry fellow at the Apple store cautioned at length against opening up this particular model because of the potential for residual charge. So getting the HD out could be of the danger.

They hooked the eMac up to one of their external hard drives and could not get anything at all off of it in the store. The fellow shook his head sympathetically and said that it would take a lot of time to suck the binaries off the drive and, even then, there was no guarantee that any of them would line up into useable documents.

I took that to mean deaddeaddead. Am I right?

Oooh, or I could make her a necklace with some of the tumbled stones I've collected.
