I fail at the internets too, Laga. Actually, I'm sort of feeling like I fail at everything today.
Spike's Bitches 39: Cuppa Tea, Cuppa Tea, Almost Got Shagged, Cuppa Tea...
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
is it interesting that I seem to have taken notes in BASIC? My boss called and asked me to do the schedule. She said she'd prefer to be off on Wednesday but that if she had to work it'd have to be a closing shift. I wrote: IF WED THEN NIGHT.
My bathroom is still not done. There is some shoddy workmanship happening. I called the contractor last Wed and bitched. GF called Monday morning and left a message. Friend who referred us contacted the owner about it. We've heard nothing from anyone. I'm so glad we spent that extra money for superior service. GGGGGRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!
that sucks, Gc
WRT updating resumes for no particular reason whatsoever...
Say someone had most of her work experience in academia and on paper looked like an office manager or the assistant to a director or dean. But she doesn't like that direction because she's kinda sick of this whole team player "let's collaborate on EVERYTHING" thing, plus she's lousy at being anyone's minion, and was happiest in a previous position where she was virtually a one-woman show with a focus on event planning and communications (putting out a newsletter, updating website content, etc.). Further suppose that she has a small child and a not-yet-paying professional vocation she's pursuing on the side, and that those factors combine to not allow her to take a job with very irregular or long hours or a lot of travel.
What kinds of jobs should she be looking for, and where? What kind of organizations might have jobs for independent, autonomous souls who've spent most of their adult life working for universities, research labs, and hospitals and who need regular work hours so they can make their daycare pickups and write their novels?
I am pottering around because my bosses are still not in and haven't answered my emailed questions about some long-term projects and travel arrangements, so there's really exactly nothing to do at all.
Raq, I am completely ignoring the blue-lipped little boy, because it's just way too creepy to even think about.
Nora, dear, I'm so sorry. You and all your family are in my thoughts.
Bah. The train I rode in to work was insanely overheated, and my sinuses are now simultaneously swollen and bone-dry. A trip to the drugstore for saline solution is in order, right soon.
Good fit job vibes to both Aimee and Susan. I don't know for certain what I'm going to do myself -- I'm starting to settle in here, a bit, but the real test won't come until both bosses are back from vacation and the serious workload begins, and in the meantime I am missing Dr. Stanger something dreadful. And I can't help feeling that I'm sabotaging myself by keeping a "wait and see, only 4 months till the first performance review" attitude instead of wholeheartedly committing. It seems unpossible that d is failing at everything, because surely I've used up all the available fail.
The other sucky things about today? Tom Scola on the other side of the continent, no game night planned with megan walker for a while, and Lee much closer than Tom but still too far.
Heard the rumor again that the Draconian Dictator Principal that I work for may not be at our school much longer. I really hope this rumor is true.
An amazing thing happened today. I got a box from Amazon. Inside contained the book Three Little Words by Ashley Rhodes-Courter. Ashley is one of my former students and is just about to graduate from college. She was also featured in Glamor magazine last June as one of the "top 10 College Females". I am so proud of her!

One of these three is easily remedied.
I think unless you love your job 100% - you should always keep your eyes open. I was happy at my old library if somewhat bored. I applied for my current job on a lark. It is much easier to go into an interview if you are ok in your current space. And I am much happier at this job , even though I would rather be home today .

When you kidnap Lee, who will take care of her cats?
