Thanks, guys.
Thankfully I don't need to take any time off from work (the family is local to me) so I don't have to be That Worker taking off scads of time for various funerals to the point of eye rolling disbelief.
AH! Must... turn....off...Law & Order....marathon!!!!!!!! Gotta go to bed.
'Night all- back to work tomorrow!
Nora, I'm sorry. You didn't need any more of this shit.
{{Nora and family}} I'm so sorry you have had so much loss this year.
My sister told me earlier today that her friend's granddaughter (age 14) had overdosed and died a couple days ago. At a party. Her friends thought she was asleep. Scary.

May 2008 be infinitely better.
I am shoe shopping. I need new basic shoes for work, and DH gave me a gift certificate to Zappos.com, so...
Unfortunately, I have annoying feet. They are hard to fit (wide toe, narrow heel, low arches, this weird knobby bit on top that means any shoe that covers my whole foot as opposed to just my toes has to be adjustable, as in some kind of lace or buckle), and I wear custom orthotics.
So, be warned, these aren't pretty shoes. I'm looking for a practical brown or black shoe that'll go with almost anything. Here are the candidates:

Thoughts?
From Laga's link at 418, the chap staying at home:
When asked whether he also had another relationship, he said: "I hate to be discourteous but I think that's our business."
A damn sight more polite than the response I'd give. Which is one reason everyone should be glad I'm not famous.
Susan, I like the first ones best.
I agree with Gloomcookie on the zappos choices.
Nora, I'm so sorry.
Oh, dear, Susan. You have my feet. Did you see these?

I've found that shoes with elastic are more comfortable than shoes that tie.

Ginger, I looked at a bunch of those, but I've had the opposite experience--the ones with the elastic usually don't have enough give in the right places to avoid making the weird knobby spot hurt.
