Ginger, I looked at a bunch of those, but I've had the opposite experience--the ones with the elastic usually don't have enough give in the right places to avoid making the weird knobby spot hurt.

Susan, have you ever tried Clarks? I have freaky toes, wide ball and narrow heels. They have a wide selection on Zappos and I've loved every pair I've had--and they're EXTREMELY comfortable.
Plus, for comfy shoes, they come in some fairly pretty styles.

I have bone spurs on the tops of my feet, and I have trouble making the laces looser right there. If a shoe comes up high on the foot and has elastic, it works pretty well. The tops of the feet thing is the hardest part to fit by mail order.

I looked at some of the Clarks, but the ones I like are above the limit I'd set of the amount of my gift certificate plus $X cash that I can spend without going broke between now and my next payday. And since I don't want to break a New Year's resolution on January 1 and one of mine is "don't buy anything you can't pay cash for unless it's a truly dire emergency"...

Ah, they are spendy, Susan. That makes sense. I bought mine on sale at Elder-Beerman, so I've never paid the full price for them.
These are the most comfortable sandals I've ever had, period.

Ginger, if we ever end up at the same F2F, we'll have to compare feet. I don't think the knobby spots on my feet are bone spurs, because they've always been there, and surely the orthopedist would've mentioned them when he told me about the bone spurs in my heels.
Stupid feet. One of the downsides of being a near carbon copy of my paternal grandmother, apparently. Plenty of plus sides to balance it out, though.
