Me: Can I head home?
Boss: What? NO! Look at all that work you have to do! (flips through mail on my desk)
Me: It's all junk mail! I already posted the rent that was in there!
Boss: You're leaving early on Wednesday!
Me: I wasn't even supposed to be here today!
Boss: See ya Wednesday, Dante.*

* This was not really his response. It was his response in my head to make him a lot cooler than he is at this precise moment. Also, I needed to make up for my wrong Star Trek shout-out last night.

Aimee that s ucks!!

Mom was funny this weekend. She called me on Saturday about 7:00pm saying "Don't you want to go clothes shopping, you need something in case you get that interview. We could go to Ross." I thought that was kinda fishy at 7:o0 at night, so I asked "You want a reason to go baby shopping don't you?" (becuase she told me she was in Target earlier) and there was a pause and then "Well, yes. But still we could look for you."

We found nothing for me and a couple baby things but the line was too long.

Also, Mom wants to try and stay away from Made in China, but she realized that just about everything is so it's been hard. She was wondering if y'all knew of places to get baby clothes and things (blankets, burp clothes, etc) that aren't made in China, preferably Made in America.

Mom's already bought some socks and a Boppy for the baby, she said "Even if they already have a Boppy I'll need one here."

Back tattoos of the mother is that you are absolutely right - Ame

OH MY GIDDY AUNT. Someone just brought in their 3 under five year old children who are all chattering very loudly in his office while he socializes with others up and down the hall.

SOME OF US ARE HERE TO GET WORK DONE. OTHERWISE WE. WOULD. NOT. BE. HERE!

Kill me now.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Oooh, what a stinkbuttface! Your boss is made of lame, Aimee.

Oh, dear God, that dress. I just emailed the link to my dressmaker friend begging her to put it on the project agenda for 2008.

askye, your mom may have more luck if she's willing to shop online -- or at least poke around online. There are lots of made-in-America and even made-in-America-organic-cotton baby clothing makers all over the interpipes; if she's not comfy shopping online, she could always at least check the websites to see if they list any brick-and-mortar retailers.

And your mom is awesome (and sneakily clever) for getting a Boppy to live at her place. The less crap the new parents have to lug with them when they go visiting, the more likely they are to be willing to go visiting.

Work here is dead, dead, dead. I'm whiling away the remaining hours reading my way back through years of Slacktivist and Feministing archives (though Slacktivist is making me kind of sad; there's a whipsmart, wry, literate lefty amateur theologian commenting on recent threads who reminds me very much of Cindy and is making me miss Cindy's spicy brains more than I usually do, which is already no small amount).

JZ! You were reading my mind. Mom called to say that Kentucky scored in the first minute of the Music City Bowl and asking my plans and I was telling her she needed to shop online.

Actually what I told her is she needs to get an AIM account so we can chat back and forth and send each other links for baby stuff. Mom's also making plans to outfit her self with a portable crib, high chair, and other things so they don't have to lug everything with them. They drive from there (South Carolina) to here, but they car has limited space and I think Mom will get a kick out of having the stuff.

August can not come soon enough.

oh! I just realized I forgot to read Left Behind Friday.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

"Even if they already have a Boppy I'll need one here."

I see a grandma-zilla in the making.

For the last 15 years, I have spent New Year's Eve with my friend R, plus a rotating cast of characters loosely defined as "people who hang out with R." R is out of town dealing with demons of his own, but his absence has played merry hell with my tiny social life. Have I called up any of these other people and asked about New Year's? Hell, no. It just seemed too pathetic. I couldn't ask people over because I had to stay in Nashville so long and I knew I wouldn't have time to deal with the Christmas flotsam.

I do have an invitation tonight, and I've even gone so far as to throw together marinated mushrooms and artichokes to take, but it's at the house of someone I don't particularly like and it will be mostly people I don't know. I think this might make me feel worse than staying home, drinking prosecco and drunk posting. On the other hand, the New Year's Eve I spent having eight stitches in my hand I swore I would never spend New Year's Eve alone again.

I gotta get me a life.

Mom's still flush with the new love of being a Grandma, I think she was starting to believe it wouldn't happen and she really wanted to be one, but she wasn't going to pressure her kids to have kids. (which I'm very thankful for).
